A LITTLE BIT OF THE STORY!
Spoilers of Ep.1-12 throughout paragraphs! I warned you! Continue if you will...

Both baffled by the words, Miaka and Yui read on only to find themselves surrounded by red light.When they awaken, they see that they are no longer in the library but somewhere that looks like ancient China. All of a sudden they are confronted by two men who want to "Play" with them. Before anything happens, a man with the character of "ogre" glowing on his forehead saves them both. Instead of thanks, he wants money so Miaka reaches into her pocket for some.
Yui is suddenly surrounded in red light again, and as she turns around to call out to Miaka she disappears. Miaka is confused. The man that had saved them was gone, and so was Yui. Thinking that the man took Yui to sell her, Miaka runs after him. When she finds him, she finds out his name is Tamahome and that he does not have Yui, though he promises to look for her. She also finds out that she is in a country called Konan.
A royal procession was being held that day. Miaka and Tamahome run to watch. He wistfully tells her that he wants a jewel from the Emperor's crown, so (stupidly) she runs to the Emperor and asks, in the process getting everyone upset. Tamahome rescues her only the next thing they know, they're in jail. She knows that Yui has made it safely back to the library because she was engulfed by red light as well, only unable to return before both she and Tamahome were captured.
She and Tamahome both escape but Miaka is led away by the smell of food. After finding her way to it and eating, she realizes that she is lost and that Tamahome is no longer with her. She bumps into someone who she thinks is a young lady but it is really the emperor! She disbelives this because he is too beautiful. The Emperor pleads with Miaka to become the legendary Suzaku No Miko so she can help protect Konan which is under constant attack of Kutou. Suzaku is Konan's god and it was the legend that a girl from another world would appear to be the Miko. His Majesty tells her that if she does become the Suzaku No Miko, she will be able to have three wishes granted. Excited, Miaka agrees.
The duty of the Miko is to find Seven protectors (better known as Shichi Seishi) and summon the god Suzaku. She must first her guardians before she can proceed in the calling. Miaka was told that she would know who the Seishi were because they would have a red symbol on their body. The emperor then shows her that he is one of the Seishi, Hotohori and shows her his symbol on his neck. Tamahome is also one of them. Miaka agrees to find the rest.Hotohori tells her that all the clues in finding the seishi was in the scrool that he had. The rest of the Seishi she would have to find were: Nuriko, Tasuki, Chichiri, Mitsukake, and Chiriko. The clues to finding the next seishi were that this seishi was in the Palace and had great strength, so the Emperor ordered for all soldiers of high rank and strength be brought out.
In the court yard, Miaka makes fun of the soldiers to test them. They obviously get upset and pursue her, in the process making a pagoda collapse on her. Tamahome in order to save her, sheilds her body with his from the debris. A Palace princess rescues Miaka and Tamahome from fallen boulders. She shows them her symbol by her collarbone and says her name is Nuriko. Overjoyed that they had found yet another, Miaka introduces herself but then is told off when Nuriko kisses Tamahome. Later on, Nuriko agrees to protect Miaka as a Seishi and the two become fast friends.
A few days later, Miaka was rescued by Tamahome (yet again) from men who were trying to rape her. He scolds her to all ends and she yells out that she loves him. Realizing her mistake, and overcome by sudden fever, she collapses. Upon waking up, she remembers what happens and repimands herself for falling in loce with a character from a book. Hotohori tells her that she can go home to relieve her stress in which she gladly agrees. The small Seishi band head out to Mt. Taikyoku to meet the creator of their world Taiitsukun.
After going through a test that Taiitsukun gave them, the enchantress tells Miaka how to get home. The trick was to have a strong bond in relationship with someone from their world and a strong bond from another thing in thier world. Yui who is following along in the events of the story by reading, shouts to Miaka that their uniform and friendship were the bonds that Taiitsukun was talking about and that no matter what, Yui would help her get out of there. The red light surrounds Miaka's body again and she is transported back to her world.
When she wakes up, she sees that she is in the library but Yui is no longer there. Miaka heads home, wondering why Yui wasn't there when they went through all the trouble trying to bring her home. She meets up with her other friends who scold her for not going to cram school. They tell her that is has only been two hours since Yui and her went to the library. Shocked at this news because she had spent weeks in the book, Miaka runs to a telephone booth to call up Yui only to her dismay, Yui isn't home. Wondering where she could have gone, Miaka makes her way home.
She tells her brother Keisuke the story in hopes that he might find some explaination to everything. He just tells her to stay away from the book because it might be evil and tells her to study hard for entrance exams into highschool so that she won't disappoint their mother. Miaka refuses to listen though. She can't forget about Yui or Tamahome so that night, she creeps out of the house and back into the library. Keisuke seeing her, follows and is so surprised that she disappeared into the book. He starts reading...
Miaka makes her way back to Konan safely. Hotohori is overjoyed that she is just fine and tells her that she has been gone for three months. He gives her the scroll so that she can find the rest of the Suzaku Seishi. Nuriko offers to bring Miaka to Tamahome who had started working because he wanted to take his mind of her.Miaka is dumbfounded at the fact that Tamahome loves money so much because he wants to make sure that his family (which is very poor)has enough for their survival. Also he wants to make sure that four younger siblings are always happy. (What a hero!) They find out that Miaka is being targeted by Kutou's armies by a man that looks like a fox. He tells Miaka that she should be careful of her actions because they may lead other people to become victims.Almost as soon as the man says this, Tamahome's family is attacked. Horrified, Miaka is angry at herself for endangering the children so for their freedom, she willingly accepts for herself to be killed. But the fox-man enters the fray and saves the day! They find out that he is a monk, magician and the fourth Seishi named Chichiri.
Miaka runs to Kutou by herself afraid that the others would get hurt because of her. She is brought to the palace of Kutou by the Shogun (general) and is introduced as the Seiryuu No Miko -the legendary Miko of Kutou who summons Seiryuu (the same rules apply here as with Suzaku's Miko) - to Kutou's emperor who is BUTT UGLY!! But then the general also shows the Emperor another girl...it's Yui. As Miaka runs to embrace her, she accidentally drops her bag and the scroll. The Shogun picks up the scroll, reads it, and blows Miaka's cover.She and Yui run and hide in a room where Miaka finds a scar over Yui's wrist.
Rescued by Tamahome and Chichiri, Miaka is shocked that Yui holds a grudge against her because of what happened through the last thee months. Hurt by the Shogun (who happens to be a Seiryuu Seishi Nakago) and by Yui who willingly accepted to be the Seiryuu No Miko, Miaka demands to know why everything was going wrong. She knows for a fact that Yui loves Tamahome and is jealous but she doesn't believe that Yui would hate her for just that. Taiitsukun shows her what happened to Yui in the three months. She was horrified that Yui was raped by thugs in Kutou all the while screaming for Miaka's help. She demands to know why she wasn't able to hear the cries, and Taiitsukun tells her squarely that it was because she had taken off what connected them - their uniform.
Yui with her hatred and jelousy for Miaka sets out to find her Seishi. It's race against time - who will summon their god first? Will their friendship ever go back to the way it was?
