His story goes like this: He's  got the power to heal, so he decided to become a doctor and help those in need with his ability. His family died in a flood - the same flood Chichiri lost his family to. A kind farmer took him in and he fell in love with the farmer's daughter Shoka. One day, as Mitsukake was out of the town to another so he could heal someone, Shoka grew ill. Although she waited for his return and suffered, she died. Realizing that he returned too late, Mitsukake blamed himself and never wanted to heal again, afraid it might happen again. He always blames himself for people's suffering and dying.
