DISCLAIMER: PLEASE READ I don't own Fushigi Yuugi. Nor did I create it or any of the wonderful awesome characters. Please keep in mind that I do not intend to ruin the plot of the story that Yuu watase came up with. I just want to let you know, htat I had to make up some characters to make the story better. If you have any reason to argue on that please e-mail me. I also may have a few mistakes as to the way a character's name is spelled or the background. If I do, then I will be willing to listen to your suggestions. And now, the story!

BEGINNINGS

"Suzuno...come to me. I need you. Summon me. Hold up the book..." Once again it called to her, and once again, she sat out of the nightmare screaming, "What book???!!!" But there was no answer. Shakily, Suzuno tried to go back to sleep, but found that she could only think about the dream. A bright white light. What was so scary about that? It was only a dream after all. And of course, she didn't understand it. Pretty soon, she drifted off to an uncomfortable sleep, and back into the dream.

"Oosugi!" The teacher rapped on the desk. Suzuno sat up. Had she fallen asleep? Damn. Well, the excuse of having nightmares wasn't enough to satisfy the teacher. Apparently she had missed something important. But the Sensei always warned them to be sharp and pay attention because he wasn't going to repeat it. She chided herself silently, and looked to Mimaru her friend for help. Her friend inclined her head, and she let out a breath of relief.
The bell rang and everyone got ready to go home. "At last," She thought to herself. She couldn't wait to get out of there. She wanted to go home and sleep. "Hey baka. You know you aren't supposed to fall asleep. That's the first time I ever saw you zone out during lessons." Suzuno forced a smile. Mimaru tilted her head as an indication that she wanted to know why.
"Maru-chan, I keep getting these dreams that someone or something calls my name. It's weird. All I see is a bright white light." She looked away, feeling embarassed. Mimaru fell silent thinking it over. Then she changed the subject.
"A..Ano...don't you want to know what you missed?" Suzuno smiled and nodded. "We're supposed to research another country. Perferably one that everyone is familiar with. I'm going to do Canada. What about you?"
Suzuno shrugged. Right now she really didn't care. "Uh, I'll do whatever I find at the library. I'm not sure yet. When is it due?"
"In two weeks." Was the answer. Two weeks wasn't enough time. But there was no way either of them could get the teacher to change his mind. The two walked on in silence, both absorbed in their own thoughts. Cherry blossoms fell about them, and a light breeze blew, causing Suzuno's dark blond hair to move with it. They reached the central station, which was filled with people getting on board and getting off to go home.
"I'll see you later!" Suzuno said, getting on the train. Maru-chan waved good-bye, turned and left to catch her own bus. Suzuno watched her, thinking about what country she was going to do. The doors closed, and the bus started to move. Outside, the streets, houses, and buildings went by fast. Before leaving the train, Suzuno hesitated and then stepped off.
