"Totus Tuus" Gharb Concert

The Chorus Urbanus during the Gharb Concert

The Chorus Urbanus has been invited to participate during a choral concert at the Gharb Collegiate Basilica to honour Pope John Paul II on Thursday, 18th May 2006 at 8.00pm. The Memorial Festival has been organised in memory of the Great Pope by the Committee for the John Paul II Memorial Monument . The choir performed sacred music especially that centering on a Marian Theme. The concert's theme was "Totus Tuus" which was Pope John Paul II's motto throughout his long papacy.

The Concert was organised in collaboration with the Gharb Local Council and the Collegiate Chapter of the Visitation Basilica in Gharb.  The sizeable and highly appreciative audience was regaled with  exciting pages from the polyphonic repertoire of classical and contemporary polyphony, including works that are performed exclusively by our Choir as these have been written especially for Chorus Urbanus. These included pieces by Mro John Galea as well as others by Arcadelt, Palestrina and Lotti.

During the concert a presentation of funds towards the cost of the monument in honour of John Paul II was forwarded by the Rev. Archpriest Gauci to the secretary of the Committee, Mr. Chris Galea. After the concert, members were given drinks and refreshments.
