Under the direction of Mro John Galea the Choir entered into an advanced phase of elaborate and rather demanding singing. The Chorus Urbanus started participating in quality concerts throughout Malta and Gozo and continued improving its already good reputation. Under John Galea's direction, the choir sang four times abroad giving concerts in Italy, England, Bulgaria, Hungary and Austria. The Choir issued three CD's, becoming the first Gozitan choir ever to issue a CD.

Ever since its formation, the Chorus Urbanus showed that it was a musical force that was destined to make its voice heard not only within St George's Parish but also in other places in Gozo and Malta, as well as abroad. Merely two years after its formation, the Choir embarked on its first choral tour outside Malta. During this tour the Choir accompanied the La Stella Band  in Italy and Switzerland. Throughout this tour the Choir had the occasion to sing in the Duomo in Milano (13.08.77) as well as in the ArchBasilica of San Giovanni in Laterano (15.08.77) on the occasion of the commemoration of the 400 years of this temple's consegration.

The Choir's second choral tour had Italy as its venue. It was in August 1990 that the Choir reached a milestone in its history. During its tour in Italy, the Chorus Urbanus sang in the Roman Basilica of San Lorenzo in Dammaso (5.8.90), in St Peter's Basilica on the Feast of Our Saviour (6.8.90) and in the Aula Nervi (8.8.90) where the Choir sang during a public audience by His Holiness Pope John Paul II, who merely three months before had visited Malta and Gozo.

The third tour of the Chorus Urbanus took place in England, in the county of Nottinghamshire, in September 1996. The Chorus Urbanus organised an exchange visit with the Thoresby Colliery Brass Band of Edwinstowe, Nottingham. During this tour on English soil, the Choir gave various concerts accompanied by the Thoresby Band, in Worksop College and in St Barnaba's Cathedral in Nottingham. The Choir also sang during the Sunday Mass in St Joseph Catholic Church in Ollerton.

The fourth choral tour took the Choir to Sofia, Bulgaria in September 1999. This tour was completely different from the preceding three. It's main aim was the recording of two compact discs. The Choir had various recording sessions in Studio 1 of the National Bulgarian Radio accompanied by the Sofia Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Mro John Galea. The Messa Leggera by Nicolo' Isouard as well as John Galea's Ggantija were recorded during the Choir's stay in Sofia. The Choir had the opportunity to sing in the Orthodox Church of Santa Nedelya in Sofia as well as in the Church dedicated to the Nativity of Our Lady in Rila Monastery.

Between 1st and 8th August 2001, the Choir visited Budapest and Vienna as the principal venues for its fifth choral tour. The Choir gave five concerts in the cities of Budapest, Szentendre and Vienna. The Chorus Urbanus was visiting Budapest on the invitation of the St Anthony Choir from Budapest who were behind the organisation of this tour.. The climax of this tour was reached during the concerts held in Malteserkirche in Vienna and in the majestic St. Stephen's Basilica in Budapest.

Chorus Urbanus is a choir who has established a reputation not only for the services it gives but most of all for the quality of its repertoire. Besides having sang in various churches in Gozo and Malta during liturgical services, the Choir took part in other prestigious occasions. The Choir sang during a concert version of Cosi' Fan Tutte in Manoel Theatre (16.06.91). A repeat performance of this same concert was performed in Sliema on 14.06.91 during the 1991 edition of Maltafest. On the 23 and 25th August 1991, the Choir sang during the open-air opera Don Giovanna held in Mdina's Cathedral Square. Another concert was performed in the Circolo Maltese in Valletta on the 21st June 1993.

On 7 March 1999, the Choir performed the revival of Messa Leggera by Nicolo' Isouard during the first edition of the Manoel Theatre Opera Festival. The concert was held in St Paul's Anglican Cathedral in Valletta. This concert was repeated for the 25th Anniversary Concert commemorating Republic Day (5.12.1999) held at the Mediterranean Conference Hall. This concert, which was attended by the President of Malta, Dr Guido De Marco as well as by other distinct personalities was transmitted live on the Maltese State Television Station (TVM).  This Mass was performed once again in St Peter and Paul Basilica in Nadur, Gozo as part of the same 25th Anniversary celebrations of the Republic of Malta.

For the Christmas Concert held in Xaghra Basilica (17.12.1999) the Chorus Urbanus performed Mozart's Coronation Mass, which was being performed for the first time in Gozo, under the patronage of the President of Malta. Ever since, the Chorus Urbanus had uninterruptedly performed in the now famous Grand Christmas Concerts for six consecutive years. The last such concert at St George's Basilica in Victoria featured John Galea's "Missa Ignes Charitatis" as well as a number of popular carols with special arrangement for choir, soloists and orchestra. On 1 July 2001, during a special celebration of a newly ordained priest, the Chorus Urbanus sang for the first time the grandiose Messe Solennelles Sainte Cecile by Charles Gounod.

During these last ten years, the Choir had the privilege to sing in special concerts organised in honour of the last three Presidents of Malta. These concerts were held in Verdala Palace (19.08.90) in honour of H.E Dr Vincent Tabone, in The Russian Chapel in San Anton Palace, the President's Official Residence in honour of H.E. Dr  Ugo Mifsud Bonnici (23.02.97) and in the private gardens of San Anton Palace in honour of H.E. Dr Guido de Marco (18.06.2000).

Chorus Urbanus, "the Town's Choir" won the admiration of whoever heard it singing not only in Malta but also abroad. Amongst its memebrs, one finds not only people from St George's Parish, the parish from where it formed and grew, but other people coming from other parishes around Gozo. Today its members number around fifty five. The Chorus Urbanus, during its years of existence, promoted the musical art in Malta through its singing, with such a deep sense of dedication and commitment, a commitment which earned the Choir satisfaction and success.
