Thoresby Colliery Brass Band

The Thoresby Colliery Brass Band

Thoresby Colliery Brass Band were formed in 1948 and are based in the North Nottinghamshire village of Edwinstowe, home of the legendary Robin Hood. They are one of the top twenty five in Great Britain.

The Band enjoys the reputation of being one of the most popular concert and contesting bands in the region. On many occasions the Band have had the honour of representing the Midlands area for the finals of the "National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain" at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Thoresby have had an outstanding reputation for undertaking a wide variety of engagements. These range from the annual Christmas Concerts with the Nottingham Harmonic Society at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham, numerous occasions in the Midlands area and many Radio and Television engagements including "Village Praise", "Children in Need" and ITV's Peak Practice. In 1996 the Thoresby Colliery Brass Band hosted the Chorus Urbanus during their Midlands Choral Tour. This was reciprocated a year later when Thoresby were the guests of the Chorus Urbanus during their Gozo Tour in July 1997.

The total commitment, skill and dedication of the band members is indeed a credit to them. During the recording of the CD "Brass and Voices" the Band was under the baton of Dr. Jon Hall, a guest conductor of the Thoresby Colliery Band.
