The
Savina Creations was
launched by Magro Brothers at a
high-profile event that took place on
Saturday
evening 6th May 2006 at St. Michael’s bastion,
at the Cittadella in Victoria. The evening
was patronized by the Prime Minister , the
Hon. Dr. Lawrence
and Mrs. Gonzi, the Speaker of the
House of Representatives, the Hon. Anton
and Mrs. Tabone, the Minister for Gozo,
the Hon. Giovanna & Mr. Debono,
various cabinet ministers, European
Parliament member Mr. Louis Grech and
members of the Diplomatic Corps. Also
present was Mr. Shaun Wallis, the Chairman
of HSBC Malta and various top bank
officials. The CPMR members from the
member states of the European Union
convening in Gozo were also among the
distinguished guests. The well-known TV
personality Valerie Vella compered the
event with her usual grace and verve.
The Savina Creations bear a
capturing motto ‘Unleash your senses’
in a range that features different
products designed to cater for the five
senses. The evening revealed the Magro
Brothers
Company
as highly motivated entrepreneur,
venturing creatively and confidently into
the cutting edge competitiveness and
challenge that the European Union offers.
The event concentrated mainly on the
presentation and launching of the Audio
and Visual products that took the audience
to a journey where the old meets the new
and is transformed into that aesthetic
magic of conservation and renewal.
Apart from
the vernissage of culinary delights of the
new range, the launching ceremony also
included a concert that reproduced the
various tracks to be found on the new
Savina CD entitled ‘Soundscapes of a
Mediterranean Culture’. The CD features
Maltese and Gozitan artists, who have been
engaged to record for Savina Sounds
under the artistic direction and
co-ordination of our musical director,
John Galea. Traditional music featuring
the Nafra Ensemble and il-Budaj
as well as choral music.
The Fjur t’Assisi Junior
Choir performed nursery rhymes while the Chorus
Urbanus performed eloquent 4-part
folk-song arrangements as well as
classical choral music by Charles
Camillleri, Giuseppe Caruana and John
Galea. The festive sound of band marches
by Leone Band flooded the Cittadella and
gave a touch of local festa atmosphere.
The evening also included extracts from
two DVD’s in four languages about Malta
and Gozo created by CVC Communications.
CVC were also responsible for the Gozo
sequences that were screened to accompany
the performance of two movements from
Three Mediterranean Portraits by John
Galea, recorded in Sofia during November
2005.
But
the highlight of the event was the
performance of ‘Tislima’ specifically
commissioned as the Savina Theme Song.
This composition for soprano solo and
symphonic orchestra, composed by John
Galea to lyrics by Oliver Friggieri was
also recorded in Bulgaria, with the
participation of soprano Yvonne Galea and
the Sofia Collegium Symphony Orchestra.
The recording session in Sofia, captured
exclusively by Citadel Video
Communications under the direction of
Alvin Scicluna, was streamed on big screen
and provided a fitting grand climax to the
event that in the words of the Prime
Minster, the Hon. Dr. Lawrence Gonzi,
“not only did it enthrall one and
all as the motto ‘unleash your senses’
says but it has also unleashed our
emotions”.
The
streets of
Victoria
were decorated from
Savina Square
up to St. Michael’s Bastion, where the
launching ceremony and concert took place
The evening was rounded off with a
spectacular fireworks display.
The
entire event was recorded by CVC and will
be televised in its entirety during the
coming months during peak viewing hours.
It was surely an event that has confirmed
the prestige that Chorus Urbanus and its
director John Galea enjoy in the local
musical scenario. |
