Oratorio "Il-Qalb ta' Kristu" performed in Fontana & Mdina

The Chorus Urbanus and soloists during the performance of the Oratorio on 10th June 2005 in FontanaThe Chorus Urbanus performed John Galea's Oratorio "Il-Qalb ta' Kristu" for the first time on 10th July 2005 at the Fontana Parish Church as part of the celebrations to commemorate the Centenary of the Parish Church's Consecration. A repeat performance was held on Sunday, 12th June under the distinguished patronage of His Lordship Bishop Nicholas Cauchi  who is the author of the lyrics for this oratorio and who once served as parish priest of the same village. Also present was Mr Anton Tabone, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Prof. Ivo Keremidchiev from Bulgaria, Recording Producer of the CD, and various other distinguished guests.

A full-strength Chorus Urbanus was accompanied by the National Orchestra of Malta to give a resounding performance of John Galea's exquisite work.

The oratorio depicts some of the most salient points of Jesus Christ's life with special reference to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The work consists of nine movements depicting the Baptism of Christ, the Wedding at Kana, the Start of Jesus' Public Ministry, the Transfiguration, the last Supper, Christ on the Cross` and the Vision to S Margeret M. Alacoque. The Oratorio ends with a fittingly grandiose Finale which during the performance was accompanied by the Fontana Church's peeling of its bells. At the end of both performances, the Choir and soloists, the Orchestra and Mro. Galea were regaled with a long standing ovation.
