An
event that is eagerly awaited by members of Chorus Urbanus
and the general public is the yearly Christmas Concert, popularly known as "Il-Kuncert
tal-Milied". This year the ninth edition will take place on the 22nd
December 2006 at Astra Theatre in
Victoria. The concert fare is usually centered around the yuletide festive season
and this year the concert will feature music by Johann Strauss and other
Christmas music.
This year's programme will feature the
National Orchestra of Malta which has been linked with this concert ever since
its foundation in 1998. The concert will kick off with Johann Strauss' overture
Die Fledermaus, Pizzicato Polka, the Emperor Waltz, the Tritsh Tratsh Polka
and the eponymous Radetsky March.
The second part will feature the Chorus
Urbanus and various soloists who will interpret evergreen Christmas carols
accompanied by the orchestra with musical arrangements by Mro. John Galea. The
concert will be brought to a rousing conclusion with Handel's Hallelujah
Chorus from the Messiah.
The concert is being held with the full
collaboration of the National Orchestra and Astra Theatre. During the event, a
collection in aid of Arka Fondation will be held. Entrance is free and patrons
are asked to be seated by 7.20pm. The concert starts at 7.30pm.
