On Wednesday
26th September, a Chorus Urbanus
committee delegation paid a courtesy
visit to the new archpriest of St.
George’s Basilica, Mgr. Paul Cardona.
The delegation was led by the choir’s
president Architect Edward Scerri and
included Mr. George Borg, general
secrtary and Mro. John Galea, the
choir’s musical director. During the
informal meeting congratulations were
extended to Mgr. Cardona, who has
previously served at various Roman
parishes, especially St. Liborius. The
meeting also included prayers for Mgr.
Salv Borg, archpriest-emeritus who is
presently undergoing treatment in
hospital. Mr. George Borg pledged the
prayers of all the members of Chorus
Urbanus in support of Mgr. Cardona’s new
ministry at St. George’s Basilica.
A
similar cordial meeting with Fr. Lino
Vella was also held yesterday, Tuesday
25th September, at the National Shrine
of the Sacred Heart in Fontana. Fr.
Lino Vella succeeds Canon George Bezzina
who has been assigned to new duties in
the Finance department at the Gozo
Curia. During the meeting, the
delegation renewed its collaboration and
promised Fr. Lino Vella full support in
his new ministry. The new chaplain was
only too willing to extend his wish that
the Chorus Urbanus continues to animate
the liturgy when invited to do so at
Fontana. The delegation expressed its
confidence that Fr. Vella will continue
to boost the veneration of the Sacred
Heart that is so vigorous at Fontana.
On his part Fr. Lino Vella said that he
will pursue this new ministry with
courage and determination supported by
prayers from the faithful.
To both Mgr.
Cardona and Fr. Lino Vella we heartily
augur ‘Ad multos annos’!
