Choir Delegation in Barcelona Conference

John Galea musical director and George Borg secretary of the Chorus Urbanus have just returned from an international meeting of choir specialists held in Barcelona by the Moviment Coral Catala between November 10th and 12th, 2006. This conference, hosted by the Moviment Coral Catala', was also patronised by Ms. Sonya Greiner. the General Secretary of Europa Cantat, with whom the Chorus urbanus enjoys the primate of Maltese affiliation.

During this conference Mro. Galea read a paper on Maltese choral life entitled "Evaluating the Past, Assessing the Present to Project into the Future". Mro. John Galea participated in the Composer's Workshop "Choral Music from the Mediterranean" discussing Mediterranean-inspired Compositional Procedures in his works. He presented CDs of choral works performed by Chorus Urbanus, including insights into his compositional technique and harmonic analysis of pieces performed. Other composers came from Italy, Spain, France, Greece Portugal and Cyprus.

 

Mr. George Borg, the choir's secretary took part in a workshop on the Efficient Organisation of Choral Events, "Music from the Mediterranean Area - A common Choral Event?" regarding the future organization and articulation of a Mediterranean Choral Event. The aim of this session was to find the best formula for presenting different types of music from the various cultures of the Mediterranean area and their choirs.
