It
is with pride and joy that the Chorus
Urbanus announces its 33rdseason.
The music we present this season
reflects many colours, and charms the
senses, from the brilliant music of
Mozart and Strauss, through the joyous
music of the Christmas carols to the
glorious and exquisite sounds of the
challenging choral premiere of John
Galea’s ‘Hodie Christus Natus Est’ to be
presented at our Christmas Concert at
Astra Theatre. Another Christmas concert
by the Chorus Urbanus is planned at the
Xaghra Basilica whereas collaborations
with foreign institutions and
personalities are to be maintained. This
year’s programme will lead us on a
spiritual quest that surpasses the
present time. More performances and
premieres of John Galea’s works are
envisaged for this season, especially
towards March 2008 and August 2008!
The
Choir’s president Architect Edward
Scerri, who has been in office for
several years, comments: “…well, we are
fortunate to have a strong feeling of
continuity at Chorus Urbanus. The
current Chorus Urbanus Committee has a
good balance of long serving and newer
members in it although we also actively
encourage younger singers. Gradually,
the Choir is increasing in strength and
we hope that more singers will be able
to join us for the interesting programs
of the next few years. Through the
years, the quality of our work and
standards of performance have been high
and continue to develop. We do rightly
feel proud to be involved directly with
such an excellent composer and
conductor, and I do hereby invite our
audiences to join us for these events
where the ordinary becomes
extraordinary! When it comes to
describing my time with Chorus Urbanus,
I know that it has definitely proved to
be a crowning experience and one of
overwhelming cultural enrichment.”
More details of the concert season will
be posted on our website from time to
time. So check it out regularly! We
remain a friendly choir, positively
welcoming new singing members from
diverse backgrounds. Further details can
be obtained from our Choral Secretary on
7955 1889.
