Il-Moviment ta’ Kana is a very
active movement. The Gozo section run
by Fr George Borg, is no less active
than its Maltese counterpart. Fr. Borg,
who has specialized in psychology, is a
much-sought counsillor. Year in year
out, the Gozo Movement organizes the
award Familja Qalb tad-Deheb
that is
awarded to a Gozitan family that has
shown faith, courage and steadfastness
in the face of adversity.
This year's function held at Palazzo
Palina was patronized by H.E. Dr Edward
Fenech Adami, President of Malta, and
Mrs Fenech Adami. The distinguished
guests were led by H.L. Mgr. Mario Grech,
Bishop of Gozo. They included the Hon.
Anton Tabone, Speaker of Parliament, the
Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo.
The function, which had its spotlight on
the Mifsud Family from Gharb, reached
its climax with the announcement of the
award by Dr Paul G. Pisani, chairman of
the adjudicating board at the end of the
report that was drawn up and read. Thus
the Mifsud Family was officially
proclaimed as the recipient of the 37th
Edition of Il-Familja Qalb tad-Deheb
award.
The evening included also some musical
interludes by the Chorus Urbanus.
Two
eponymous operatic choral excerpts by
Giuseppe Verdi: “Coro dei Profughi
Scozzesi” from Macbeth
and
“Coro
dei Schiavi Ebrei” from Nabucco
were
sung
with the usual poise and idiomatic
flair. The Chorus Urbanus’s singing
sounded elegant but solidly sonorous in
the 18th-century vaulted hall
at Palazzo Palina, at Ta’ Cenc. The
Choir was conducted by its musical
director John Galea.
At the end of his address, President
Fenech Adami presented the Familja Qalb
tad-Deheb award to Mr. and Mrs. Mifsud
and their family. A grand reception
followed, during which the members of
the choir were congratulated by the
members of the distinguished audience
for their unfailing commitment in
performing at this ceremony.
