John Galea together with other members of the jury during the 27th edition in November 2004. together with Chairman of the foundation Prof Liliana Pannella (2nd from L.)Our musical director John Galea, whose musical competence encompasses a multi-disciplined role as composer, conductor and musicologist, has been recently designated to represent Malta in the XXX Edition of the "Valentino Bucchi" International Competition in Performance and Composition to be held in Rome between 15th  and 30th  November, 2007. The main disciplines of this competition will comprise:

1) Fame and Fortune of the Clarinet in the 20th and 21st century;
2) The Flute and the Piccolo in the 20th and 21st century; 

3) The Voice in the 20th and 21st century;
4) The Chorus for treble voices in the 20th and 21st century; 

5) The Piano for childhood (Music, Nature, Games and Fairy Tales).

Apart from his contribution as member of the jury panel, in the final phase of the competition, he will also present a paper ‘I concorsi di composizione e di esecuzione: esperienze pedagogici o scrutinio artistico?’ on the 27th November. During the ‘Clarinet Day’ to be held on 28th November Mro. Galea will also dwell on some of his compositions where the clarinet features in a prominent role. 

John Galea has participated in various past editions as member of jury panel of the Valentino Bucchi Competition. These have ranged from clarinet to flute, pianoforte, voice, composition and choirs. During the 2004 edition, he was also elected as President of the Jury in the Choral Category.
