About our Sunday Service
What is the Sunday Service like?

We want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you join us for a worship service.  Our Sunday Service lasts just one hour and refreshments are served after every service.

The service commences at 11:15am each Sunday, but people start arriving from around 10:50am, so don't worry about turning up too early.  We try our best to offer an inclusive and professional worship each week.  A variety of preachers conduct services at Chorlton Unitarian Church so it is worth visiting us a few times in order to get a true feel of the place.  Our Development Officer leads over half of our services.

Depending on who is leading the service, the style may differ slightly from week to week.  However, the following are generally featured in our worship services:

*Hymns and songs
*Meditations and Prayers
*Readings from the Bible and other sources
*One or more periods of silence
*A Collection
*A Talk, Sermon or Discussion

Sometimes a written Order of Service is produced whereas, on other occasions, the leader choses not to use one.  In either case, the leader will explain when to sit, stand etc.

We observe the major festivals of Christianity as well as those of other World Faiths.  We also take into account the changing seasons in our worship.

Each week we begin worship by singing together the song 'Spirit of Life', which has become our 'theme song'

"Spirit of Life, Come unto me,
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea,
Move in the hand giving life the shape of justice.
Roots hold me close, wings set me free,
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me!"
