Kings Quest III
To Heir Is Human
On top of a mountain in the land of Llewdor is an
ordinary two-story house with a chicken coop nearby. Living inside
the house is an old man with a large white beard. He does not
seem like a peaceful man at all, for his eyes are narrow and evil-looking.
His name is Manannan, and he is a powerful, yet misanthropic wizard.
However, he doesn't live alone in the large house.
There is a young man living with him by the name of Gwydion. He
is not related to Manannan by blood, for he is a slave to the
demanding wizard. Everyday for over fifteen years, Gwydion has
followed Manannan's every order, whether it was to clean the house
or to feed the chickens. He has no memory of his real identity.
What is worse is that he has no freedom, which is what he desires
most.

Periodically, the wizard Manannan leaves the house
to go out for a while. Gwydion sees this as an opportunity to
be sneaky without his master's knowledge. He explores the house
thoroughly, including the bedroom and study of Manannan that the
wizard forbids his slave to enter. He does discover magic and
how to cast some powerful spells. In fact, it might be the only
way to be free from his master for good.
Gwydion also ventures outside the house to explore Llewdor. There
are trees, grass, bushes, mud, and water decorating the landscape.
There is also a scorching dry desert towards the west. He wanders
around and visits a tavern as well as a nearby store. What is
mainly on his mind is gathering items that are necessary to cast
the spells that he learns. Wandering outside does help him with
that.
Of course, he has to be careful has he wanders around the land
of Llewdor. If he enters the desert, he must not stare into the
eyes of Medusa, or else he will turn into stone. There are also
bandits who could rob Gwydion if he doesn't run away from them.
There is also a giant spider guarding a cave. His worst enemy
is Manannan, who would not tolerate his attempt to learn magic.
Gwydion must deal with the wizard soon, for he must get to his
real home where he truly belongs.
