Hi You, Okay, all the big breaks are over and you have been working hard the last few weeks. So what do we think about? The next big break that's a-comin'!

This Layang Layang trip falls across 2 of the possible 3 days holidays that happens in May- 1st (Labor Day), 2nd (Prophet's B'day) and 3rd (Wesak Day). Now, you don't wanna be caught sleeping the 3 days plus the weekend off, do you?

Jan. 6th 2004 - Valentine's a coming

Valentine day is almost upon us. So a very special and memorable Valentine Day Trip is planned.

As you may know a trip to Mabul Sipadan is usually very costly- the cheapest so far is  Borneo Diver's uncompleted "Resort" going for RM 1900 for 6 Days 5 Nights package. But the key word here is "UNcomplete". Holidaying in a construction site isn't exactly Valentine, is it?

Alternatively, there's Sipadan Water Village at RM 2150.00 for a 6 Day 5 Night Package ex Tawau. A good deal unless there's less than 6 of you. They add on a surcharge of RM 700 for the sea transfer if you have less than 6.

SMART is the most expensive resort in this region. Their normal 6 Day 5 Night Package ex Tawau cost a princely RM 3366! After we knock off 15%, it still comes to a high RM 2860.

So being Valentine and all, I did me some talking to SMART and got us a DEAL! 40% OFF the published price! A whopping RM 1376 savings!

How's that!

So the package is as follows:

10th to 15th Feb 2004

6 Days 5 Nights

Includes ALL  Land and Sea Transfers

RM 1990.00 ONLY! Ex Tawau.

Jan. 3rd 2004 - HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I hope 2003 has been good to you and 2004 even better!

For me, 2003 was a year of many changes and I hope to have Diversity up and running soon.

As for now, I am still running trips and courses.

Recently came back from Mabul/Sipadan. A glorious trip, seeing everything that we wanted to see- Baras, Jacks, Bumphead schools and little critters like seahorse, ghost pipefish, octopus and horned cowfish, leaf and frogs. Was wonderful! Check out the PICTURES. Should whet your appetite for the below!

April is about 100 odd days away so there's plenty of time for you to apply for leave. 27th April to 2nd May is the trip. As you  know, May has 3 hols- 1st is Labor Day, 2nd is Prophet's B'day and 3rd is Wesak! Hence you can come back and rest b4 going back to work!

As it is very much peak season cos of the hols, please book early for 2 reasons. One is to secure a berth and the 2nd is to take advantage of Air Asia. Saves a lot of dosh, if you book early!

A deposit of RM 500.00 will secure you the Air Asia flight and a berth at LLIR. If you really really cannot make it 72hrs from the departure date, you forfeit only RM 150.00. The rest of the deposit will be returned to you.

If you dilly dally and decide only in April, the Air Asia fare would have escalated more than RM 150.00 easily!

So check out the TRIPS page and apply for leave, work overtime or whatever to get you there!

Dec. 7th 2003

2003 is drawing to a close and some of you will be asking, "How the hell did 2003 go by so fast?!".
Many things happened in 2003. I suppose the most significant for our country is the departure of Dr Mahathir as prime minister. The end of an era.

So what was 2003 like to you?

Some of us have been working hard. Others changing lanes. Made new friends and lost a few too. Took up new sports. caught up with old ones too. But after all that, Life goes on. Life is too short and as the old saying goes, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy!".

So, most importantly, did you enjoy 2003?

For me, it has been quite a year. I went out diving for fun. No students! Backpacked in Thailand all the way to the Golden Triangle. Went to try authentic Sarawak Laksa in Kuching and visited the awesome Mulu Caves. And I left DiveStation (phew!) and if things go on track, 2004 will see KL with a new dive shop, Diversity!
Enough said, Let's talk diving!
For those of you who have been giving me the "No time, so no Life" crap, well...time to make time! So here's plenty of time to apply for leave, cajole the mrs, delegate the work and find the money. We're talking end April, the 27th to be exact, a good 116 days away from 1st Jan 2004 to make it happen for you. You won't regret it, I'll tell you right now!

Where? new

Layang Layang! To see the hammerheads and do some great dives. A treat for yourself. Time for some straightforward selfishness- you deserve it!
The long and short of it is this- one night in The Promenade, a 4 star hotel in Kota Kinabalu (BKI) then 5 days 4 nights in Layang Layang Island Resort (LLIR).  the trip ex KK is RM 2729.00. If you take advantage of Air Asia right now, the flight KUL-BKI-KUL is only RM 348.00!
Check out the itinerary for more details and sign on. A deposit of RM 500.00 will secure you the Air Asia flight and a berth at LLIR. If you decide you really really cannot make it 72hrs from the departure date, you forfeit only RM 150.00. The rest of the deposit will be returned to you. If you dilly-dally and decide only in April, the Air Asia fare would have escalated more than RM 150.00 easily! So check out the dive trip and apply for leave, work overtime or whatever to get you there!

Okay meantime a merry xmas and happy new year. god bless!

Nov. 16th 2003

The trip to Mabul/Sipadan happening on 7th Dec. There are 2 possible packages as I know some of you guys enjoy your work  and can't wait to rush back to it!

The shorter package is for 5D4N (7th-11th) and for those lucky fellas who have more time, a  6D5N (7th-12th) package! A little bit about SMART (Sipadan Mabul Resort). Many people ask me, "Why not go Water Village, one? I saw the advertisement, nice, mah!".

The answer is quite simply this...

...SMART have very experienced DMs. These buggers can spot the smallest and most hidden things. I think they eat a lot of carrots! And in Mabul, you need good experience DMs to point out the marine life to you in Mabul or you will just whizz by, oblivious. These guys and gals know their Mabul, oh and Sipadan extremely well.  Also, SMART is situated on 11 acres of land. And doing 3 or more dives a day, you'll want to put both your feet back on solid ground! Or in this case, fine white powder sand. The mere fact that you can also lie by the pool, jump in the Jacuzzi or have a massage is absolutely wunderbar! SMART also have hammocks strewn all over it's beach front for a good snooze  under swaying palms and balmy sea breezes. This, for some of us, is a well deserved, much needed rest between dives.

Evenings can be spent lounging on deckchairs sipping ...coke? on the rotunda that jut out to sea in order to get as close to the sunset as possible. Sunglasses  and tanning lotions are optional!

Hot afternoons? What hot afternoons? The resort is green and coolly shaded by hundreds of coconut palms. Bungalows are built well apart to allow the fresh cool salty breeze to slip through without hindrance.

For those who like their creature comforts, grab a hot/cold beverage and a snack and catch up on the latest football score or spend time with Ally McBeal in the TV room.

Photographers can get their slides or photos printed for the on the spot. There is a viewing of slides and videos in the bar every evening to catch up on the wonderful and amazing creatures captured on that day's dives on film by the guests.

Diving = Hungry? Me too! Meals are served buffet style and both western and continental are available. Veggies are stir fried for you when you want it and not left to wither in the hot plate. Apart from the 3 daily meals, tea is served at 4 and for the MSG addicts, you can request a maggi mee anytime!

Why stay in Mabul and not Sipadan?

Many reasons. Sipadan is very small. It takes only 8 minutes to walk around the island! The water table is small easily and contaminations (like shampoo, conditioners, soap, gel, repellant residue, etc) easily find its way back into the reef. Our evening activities are scary to the turtles that want to land and lay their eggs. Less and less turtles are coming up to lay eggs in Sipadan mainly due to the noise, lights and smells of our evening reverie.

Then there is the attraction of Mabul.

Mabul is a bombed out island, large and can support more people. Being bombed out, it has developed its own world of the more adaptive species. That, in turn, have introduced the latest type of dive sites and dives. Muck diving is diving in reefs without much coral. These "dead" areas have attracted special and unusual animals like frogfish, flamboyant cuttlefish, mandarins, ghost pipefish, leaf fish, flying gunards, laser fish and many many others.

Animals you may never spot in a hundred dives elsewhere! It is also, to me, the most amazing place to do a night dive. Apart from that, it is only 15 minutes away from the furthest point of Sipadan, making Sipadan easily accessible too.

Is it safe? Very safe. Our Navy patrols the dive areas vigilantly and are based in Mabul. The isolated, but much publicised kidnapping happened are on the mainland, very far away. That would be like saying," Don't go to Johore because there was a kidnapping in Penang!" Sounds silly, right?

Okay, enough said. Any other questions should be answered by calling me on 013 364 1948 or email me or you can fill in the form - REGISTER ME!

Hope to see you smile in the clear blue waters .

warmest,
Chooi

Adopt a  family of 120 bumphead parrot fish swimming and feasting on the coral reef. Enjoy the company of weirdos like the frog fish and the flying gunards, nudibranches and sea moths.

Sounds good to you?

As the resort is already booked, we need to secure places on the flights both out and back. Sabah will require your IC names- not the Ah Beng, Ali or Smith! Hence we need you to book early. No deposit just your name as in your IC so as we can block the flights, so email or call me and give me the details.

February 08 2002

Layang Layang Trip is  GO!

Looks like 2002 is a dive year as everyone is looking to satisfy their nitrogen addiction.

We have 2 trips out to Layang this March.
Both are well received as the rate is well below those offered by THE OTHERS in KL and we're not talking about the Nicole Kidman horror flick here!

As you know, Layang is not only a 5 star dive site but has a 5 star resort on it too and that's where we're staying!

The package is full board (ie you come back fat!) and includes 3 daily boat dives. Equipment is your own but if you need a BCJ and Reg, we can provide you with BCJ, Reg and computer, no problemo. Just tambah RM 200.00 lah!

How we go? Heiyah, first we fly to KK and spend a night in the 4 star Promenade Hotel and binge on seafood the whole night. After a good night's rest, early flight into the island (The resort features its own landing strip) then after a welcome drink and resort orientation, it's DIVE! DIVE! DIVE!

March should see the hammerheads schooling and hopefully we can sight some mantas too. Pelagics galore here as Layang is an oceanic atoll so bring your cameras and vid cams!

For the Richard Attenborough Wannabes, Layang is also a bird sanctuary (here, I best clarify with the single guys that they are the feathered type, sorry!) and has thousands of birds on the other half of the island. Visits are encouraged and it is quite a sensational sight to see.

Lazy after the dives- go laze by the pool or have a drink in the bar. Lots of after dive activities here.

So come over and join us. The dates?
12th to 17th Mar OR 15th to 21st Mar.
The price is ex KUL and includes the flights and transfers. Full board at Layang and 3 daily boat dives.
All this for RM 3188.00 only!
Break it down to
1 night in KK at The Promenade
5D4N at the Layang Layang Island Resort
3 Boat dives daily
All meals
All transfers and flights
and you will realise its kinda cheap, right?

Mo info? Call me, lah- 013 364 1948 or email me but better you just come in and sign up, lah!
