Cornerstone Review

First off, for those who do not know what cornerstone is, it is a five day festival of christian hardcore, punk, new wave, techno, and whatever flavor of music i forgot. It involves you having to camp, buy or bring food, bathe in horrible conditions, and get sunburnt. This festival features over 180 of the top xian bands and is very exciting which i suggest anyone whom likes any kind of music to go.

On monday, we left at around 7 a.m. There were 11 of us. Very exciting six hour drive ahead. We arrived at the festival around 12 i believe. Then setting up tents, tables, chairs, etc.. I ventured off to see what was ahead on this rather humid monday afternoon. Walking around there was about three places that were set up for bands to play at. Most suck. It was either junky hardcore or poppy punk. Suck. So i spent most of the day watching bands that SUCK. oh well. then i slept.

Tuesday, tooth and nail day. I only saw a few bands this day, me being the lazy bum and not wanting to walk to watch crap bands play, i think i saw only luti-kriss, a very excellent hardcore band. Then i slept.

Wednesday, the actuall first day of the festival. I cant remember who i this day. I think maybe 7-10 split, no innocent victim, strecht armstrong, and the blamed. As i walked around i noticed to many gutter kids wearing biker jackets. Which brings me to a pondering point, what kind of poser wears a biker jacket in 90 degree heat? To many kids with mohawks and dyed hair. Food is overpriced. 7 bucks for a corndog (foot long) and a large lemonaide shake-up thing. oh well, it was good. really good. I bathed for the first time, i refused to walk up to the showers. We camped next to a water spicket thing and had a shower hook up or whatever its called and so i used that. ahh. refreshing. Then i slept.

Thursday, punk rock night. Tonight is a good night. the discarded, headnoise, and the blackjacks (thee pirates). All beautiful gutter punk rock bands. During the discarded, it was rather funny, they played at the same time mxpx did so the crowd was rather small. Funny part being how everyone had mohawks and biker at the show. I miss my 'hawk. The blackjacks was basically a party show. Throwing trash and what else at the bands as they played. Beautiful. Headnoise was great. Probally the best live show of the entire festival. In the circle pit, i noticed that there was this rather preppy looking girl just standing outside of the pit. She had one of those 'what the crap am i doing here' looks on her face. So i made the choice that everytime i run by her, i'm going to try to run, fall, or hit her as i jogged by. Most of the times i missed. I connected a few times with the sweaty punk rock i just creamed you action. Oh well. Her boyfriend i guess stood in front of her after about a few times of this. It made me smile. Punk hurting rock. Then i slept.

Friday was a beautiful day. It was the first night i had to goto the main stage for the reasons to see ballydowse and squad five-0. There isnt much to do to kill time their. i suppose there is, but i'm to lazy. Everyday i went to the three merch tents at around 12. That was random. Ballydowse was a decent show were their singer babbled about situations in iraq, amerikan prisons, and so on. Squad five-0 sucked. Their new stuff really sucks. But they but on a decent show at least. I was the red braced kid ripping it up in the pit. oi oi oi. I crowd surfed also, which getting my 260 lb body up on top of people was kind of diggable. Looking out on the 10,000 people or so was a kodak moment. I saw Pedro the lion to finish the night off. Then i slept.

Saturday, the last night of the festival. I cant remember anything really exciting on this day. Officer negative played. Thats about it. Officer negative being one of my favorite punk rawk bands. i also met titka. woot. Officer negative could of put on a better show. It was good and the songs were good just not much of a live performance i guess. I checked out savior machines last performance along with another ballydowse show. Then i slept.

The day ahead of a 6.5 hour drive to home. We waked up at 6:30 maybe. i slept most of the way back. Cornerstone was fun. I was suppose to goto warp tour a few days later, but due to family problems that is not possible. Ticketmaster sucking is part of that also. The festival of cornerstone is good for about anyone with any flavor of music. It has it all. I had a good time. Camping kind of sucked. Having to bathe of out the water spicket sucked. Oh well. I spent $210 on food, cds, clothes, patches, etc.. I have a job. i can afford it. Yeah. I cant remember what time i got back, but i took a bath and the water turned green. 1
