I can't remember when I first read the Swallows and Amazons books, they just
seem to have always been part of my life. I suspect I was introduced to them
by my father again, as I seem to remember him saying he'd read them
when he was young. I own all of the books, although I only have
four in hardback so far. The hardback editions are the ones I remember
borrowing from the library (and my copy of Secret Water is an ex-library
copy, complete with plastic cover) and one day I hope to replace all my
paperbacks with the beautifully jacketed hardbacks. The illustrations are the
same inside both paperback and hardback editions, but the hardbacks have several illustrations featured on the jacket, whereas the paperbacks just have one.
