Another Place, Another Time

He won't think about it. He can't. To think about it makes it real and he just can't deal with that right now. There's a job to be done and he can't just set it aside for this.

But� a baby. His baby. Gone.

Everyone says there will be other chances, other children, but it isn't enough to comfort him. He keeps hearing Donna, her soft broken voice telling him�. It�s too much.

He loved *this" child. Wanted *this* child. Barely a visible bump in Donna's stomach, but she was his. And he loved her with all of his heart.

She can't take the silence.

One week turns into two, turns into a month. She knows he's hurting � she is too. She thought they could share in their grief and heal together. But as time passes, Josh just gets quieter, until he's a shadow of the man he was.

She's tried talking about it. She's tried assuring him there was nothing they could have done. She's tried moving on.

None of it seems to have any effect.

Finally, she decides to stop staring at the empty nursery, wondering what went wrong. Instead, she starts packing. There's nothing left for her here.
