February in Nashua

"Hey," Josh said, shivering in the cold New Hampshire air. He brushed some snow off the bench next to Leo and sat down. "Margaret said you needed to see me?"

"Yeah," Leo said, swallowing a bit of a sandwich and flicking through the newspaper in front of him. He looked over at Josh with serious eyes. "She said you had a new assistant?"

Josh nodded and rubbed his hands together for a little for warmth. "Donna."

"Tall, blonde girl, right?"

"Yeah. She drove here from Wisconsin."

"You think she's gonna work out? We're heading to South Carolina next and we can't afford to pay for hangers-on."

Josh shrugged. "She seems pretty determined to stick with it."

"Ok then. Treat her good. Don't overwork her like I do to Margaret," Leo instructed with a small smile before going back to his paper.

"Got it," Josh said, nodding. He stood and then turned back to Leo. "Why are you eating out here in the freezing cold?"

Leo looked up at him. "You've been living in DC for too long. You don't know what cold is."

"I grew up in Connecticut!" Josh protested.

"Yeah, and I lived in Chicago for how many years? This is nothing new to me."

"You've been friends with the Governor for too long," Josh remarked, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

"There are worse things than that in this world."

"Yeah." He paused and looked longingly at the remainder of sandwich sitting in its wrapper next to Leo. "You going to eat the rest of that?"

Leo looked at what was left of the lobster roll then back at Josh. "What do you think?"

Josh's eyes crinkled as he thought about. "You're eating it?"

"Hell, yes, I'm eating it," Leo confirmed with a growl. "Now go away and let me finish my paper in peace."

"'kay."
