Our USA trip 2002

Cold Spring Harbour
DNA Learning Centre
We took the train from New York city to Long Island to visit the Cold Spring Harbour Lab. We had lunch at the cafeteria there and saw Dr Watson! Should have gotten his autograph.
We visited the DNA learning Centre near the Cold Spring Harbor lab and there were many fascinating exhibits there, including the Neanderthal man. We checked our thumbprints and learned more about diversity.

Snow-covered Philadelphia
Independence Hall
There was a blizzard in the morning before we arrived at Philadelphia. So, there was snow and snow everywhere. We only went out to meet Choongtze & Enzong at the University of Penn.
The next morning, we visited the Independence Hall and joined a guided tour. We departed for Williamsburg in the afternoon. We travelled from cities to cities by Amtrak. We enjoyed the train rides very much. The scenes outside the windows were wonderful.

Christmas parade at Williamsburg
Train station at Williamsburg
We came to Williamsburg mainly to see Florence. We were pleasantly surprised that there was a Christmas parade.
We went to the Outlet Mall to shop and visited the Colonial Town centre.

Washington Monument
T-Rex at the Smithsonian
We took a Washington Night tour and visited the Lincoln memorial, Korean War memorial and the White House Christmas Tree. We spent a few days here at DC.
We visited the Natural History, American history and Air & Space museums at the National Mall. The aquarium and China town was a disappointment.

At the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls
The illuminated Falls at night
We walked across the bridge to the Canadian side and walked around the rather quiet streets. Visited a huge Hershey store.
The American side was quieter and the walk in the evening was really nice.

Times Square, NYC
Our favourite ToysRUs
We took a UN tour and saw the various rooms used for meetings and negotiations. Can you spot the Singapore flag?
We also visited the very sad empty place where the World Trade Centre twin towers stood.

This has been an educational trip for all of us. The museums in New York were
very impressive. We especially liked the Intrepid Air and Sea museum, the
American Natural History museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Arts.
We managed to catch a broadway musical : The Phantom of the Opera, the very
first night we arrived. We could only note down some of the things that we did
during this 18-day trip.
