Downchild - Live at the Palais Royale (2007)
In the world of Blues, Downchild is unique. Their sound has inspired generations of band's since they first burst upon the scene back in 1969. Individually, the band is made up of a group of musicians who are incredible talents, as players and songwriters... collectively, they are unstopable!
What sweetens the deal is the fact that much of Downchild's music is original, most of which is written by Donnie "Mr. Downchild" Walsh. Unlike many blues bands these days, that seem satisfied to spend much of their time laboring in obscurity covering the classics, Downchild create their own classic's!
For almost 30 years they have been known as "Canada's Blues Band" and such they are, as evidenced in their latest release, Live at the Palais Royale.
Most "Live" albums are usually recorded over several shows and later cleaned up or augmented in the studio, to enhance the sound. Such is NOT the case with Downchild Live. Recorded in one night and released without any studio alterations, this album is a tribute to a brilliant band's incredible talent and one hell of a live show!
Just listening to this CD will make you wish you had been there. To experience the band in person, in the Palais Royale, bathed in the glow of the footlights. To stand in the crowd and let the sound wash over you, like an unstoppable wave. To close your eye's and say to yourself, "This is what blues should sound like".
Steeped in Diversity, there are other bands, other albums, and a host of different sounds that are called the blues. If you want to know what live blues is supposed to sound like, then pick up Downchild Live at the Palais Royale. You will NOT be disappointed! Better yet, check them out in person!
