Episode 001
Original Broadcast date: January 15/04
Final Score: Team Owen! 116, Team Stella! 96
In the premiere of BrainFreeze, no lead was safe. Both Owen and Stella were very good teams,
as they tied after round one and three.
But there were mishaps too – common bonds being said at the wrong time,
and US states & prime numbers missed.
In the end, Owen pulled it out, with their opponents declaring that they
were “not so Stella”!
Episode 002
Original Broadcast date: January 22/04
Final Score: Lobster Mafia 113, Paddon Pals 100*
Episode 2 was just as tight as the first. The Paddon Pals knew their classic TV; the
Lobster Mafia knew their Canadian history.
And the difference was merely two measly points going into the final
round. It looked like the Paddon Pals
would take the game, but the Lobster Mafia pulled up their heels and beat them
in the end.
(*there was a score discrepancy, and this is a
different point total then broadcast, but does not affect the outcome of the
game)
Episode 003
Original Broadcast date: January 29/04
Final Score: Bayside Tigers 112, Abbott’s Hot Cousin
66
Episode three saw a very interesting game – both
question and personality wise. Abbott’s
Hot Cousin couldn’t stop laughing (ed: we don’t understand the name
reference, please don’t ask us!), while the Bayside Tigers’ goal was to use
Brain Freeze as a launching pad towards their game show supremacy, including a
stop at The Price is Right (ed: These people have a good idea!). We saw our most ingenious clue for a
codeword (“dialysis” for “kidney”) on Abbott’s side. Heading into Buzzer Beaters the game was low scoring but close
(47-46), but the Bayside Tigers were unstoppable, leaving Abbott’s Hot Cousin
to be cooled off.

Original Broadcast date: February 26/04
Final score: I like dump trucks 83, Team Ramrod 70
Our first episode after a short hiatus reunited us
with one of our pilot contestants (ed: we’re not telling who). Both teams played like they meant it. Sean of Team Ramrod came up with the best
last second pun answer we’ve ever heard, and had the lead going into Buzzer
Beaters. Alas the dump trucks did
indeed steamroll them in the last round, picking up 55 points to win the game.
Tournament
of Champions
We invited the best five teams back for the tournament
of champions… and they were:
GAME WINNERS
Team Owen! 116
Lobster Mafia 113
Bayside Tigers 112
RUNNERS-UP
Paddon Pals 100
Team Stella! 96
First up: “Revenge of the Losers”
Episode 006
Broadcast date: March 18/04
Final score: Team Stella! 88, Paddon Pals 65
With each of the teams missing a member, it was up to
their replacements to do the job. And
while everyone played hard – it was their second chance, y’know – Team Stella! was
indeed stellar and won by a small margin, thus advancing them into the
semi-finals where the big game players did indeed wait.
Episode 007
Broadcast date: March 25/04
Final score: Team Cheddar! (formerly team “owen”) 165,
Lobster Mafia 141.
Special guest announcer: Karen Follett
We were getting into the serious business at this
point – a chance at the final was on the line.
And we did our best to throw them off their games by revamping Eggheads
into Super Eggheads and making them bet their points against their
knowledge. We even asked them a
question in secret before the show started, unknown to them. But it didn’t matter. They’re good. And although the Lobster Mafia scored a whopping 50 points in
Buzzer Beaters it was just a bit short as our original #1 seed – the renamed
Cheddar – moved on for a chance at the cash jackpot.
Episode 008
Broadcast date: April 8/04
Final score: Bayside Tigers 167, Team Stella! 150
The other two semi final teams weren’t slouches either. And the Bayside Tigers did come one step
closer to fulfilling their game show destiny by winning with a margin that
ranks in the closest games we’ve had.
So that set up the final matchup: Could the new MUN students that
comprised the Bayside Tigers defeat the already university experienced Team
Cheddar?
Episode 009
Broadcast date: April 1/04
Final score: we’d like to forget.
Guest announcer: Nancy Earle
It’s my webpage – I can choose what to put!
You had to figure given the personnel working on
BrainFreeze that we wouldn’t do a regular show on April Fool’s day. And we didn’t.
Nancy was our guest announcer and Ryan hosted. For the first half. And then we switched. Whichever of the on air talent (and we use
that term loosely) wasn’t playing was the sole member of the “Lighten up roddy”
team playing against the mighty team comprised of Sarah and Hope (who actually
TAUNTED us in an e-mail!).
And how did the Lighten up roddy team do? We lost.
You could attribute it to the fact that Mike never watches TLC. Or that Ryan can’t figure out puns that he
doesn’t write himself. Plain and simple
we lost!
But we had fun.
We think.
Episode 010 – TOURNAMENT/SERIES ONE FINALE
Broadcast date: April 15/04
Final Score: Bayside Tigers 151, Team Cheddar! 140
Well, this was it.
The finale. And it was super
long – a special 45 minute episode. The
lead went back and forth over several rounds, including two where team members
were forced to play by themselves (HORROR!).
We even made them answer questions that were the hardest ones we could
find from that “Millionaire” program.
And in the end – in the closest game of the season, it
was a margin of two questions that won it for the Bayside Tigers.
We then gave out the prizes – and it was cold hard
cash! Ryan took great joy in doling out
the money just like Chuck Woolery used to do on Scrabble. But that’s not the point is it?
The point is that we had a great season! Thanks to everyone who helped and played.
