Bostick Throws No-Hitter, Sox to 2-0

The Yankees played their inaugural game in the Charlotte NABA. New manager Kirk Rauch and his young team are a great group of guys and most welcome addition to the league. We hope to see them around for many years to come. For the first time in Charlotte Red Sox(2-0) team history, a pitcher walked off the mound with the ever-elusive no-hitter under his belt. Brett Bostick made his first start of the season and made it in fine fashion. He struck out the first 2 hitters he faced and never looked back. He went on to fan 6 in his 5 innings of work without walking a batter, including striking out the side in the 3rd, and sitting down the first 14 batters he faced. With 2 outs in the 5th and perfect game still in order, a fielders throwing error led to the first baserunner of the night. In what can only be described as a wacky series of events, he also lost the shutout as the next 2 batters popped up to the infield, only to watch both balls bounce out of the fielders gloves. After the three straight errors, he closed out the no-hitter with another pop fly which actually stayed in a glove. The Sox made sure he had plenty of offense behind him, plating 5 in the bottom of the 1st, 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, and an offensive explosion of 10 runs in the 4th. Offensive highlights were aplenty, most notably an inside-the-park 2-run homer from Mike Marconi and 2 RBI triple by Joe Maione. 11 of 13 hitters who went to the plate recorded a hit, and 11 players also scored. Maione led the charge with 4 RBI's on a triple and a single in his 2-3 effort. Jon Herringdine(2-3, 2B, 2RBI), Dowd Maye(2-2, SF, 2RBI), and Scott Yaniszewski(2-3, 2B) each chipped in with multi-hit games. J.D. Vidal added a 2-run double along with Marconi's 2-run homer, with everyone, top to bottom, contributing to the rest of the offensive success. The Sox were honored to go in the books as the first opponent of the expansion Yankees and wish them much success and longevity in the league. A credit to their manager, they played hard all night, and with more time on the field together, we have no doubts they will be a much-improved team in the next matchup. The Red Sox are back in action Sunday night at Waddell HS at 7pm against the defending NL regular season champion Charlotte Astros. After a 2-game split in 06', both by a margin of a single run, this is a key matchup early in the season for both teams and should be a great game..
