Red Sox Upend Royals, Remain Undefeated
April 3, 2007 Royals 1 0 4 0 0 0 0 5 12 1 Red Sox 0 3 1 1 1 2 x 8 15 4 WP- Bostick (2-0) LP- Hall (0-1) Waddell HS-----The Charlotte Red Sox ran their record to 4-0 Tuesday night with an 8-5 victory over the Charlotte Royals (0-3). The Royals got on the board first plating one on an error in the 1st. In the 3rd, the Sox bats came around and scored three, highlighted by a 2-RBI ground rule double from Matt Rosner. Shawn Gardner would also double in a run in the inning as well. The Royals wasted no time answering in the top of the 4th putting together six consecutive hits along with a Sox error to take the lead 5-3. The Sox crossed the plate once in three consecutive innings to take the lead 6-5 going into the top half of the 6th. An Andrew Romberger RBI single in the 3rd and an RBI double from Joe Maione in the 5th were the big blows in the middle innings. However, the story of the game was Brett Bostick who took command after the 3rd inning implosion and allowed only two hits the rest of way while striking out the side in the 5th. The Sox added on two insurance runs in the bottom half of the 6th stringing together three hits with Philip Naylor and Brian Freivogel each driving in a run. Bostick retired the side in order in the 7th to record his second win in as many starts. Bostick recorded the win going the distance while giving up three runs, striking out six and not surrendering a free pass the entire night. Offensive leaders were apently for the Sox, Rosner (2-2, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, RS), Romberger (3-4, RBI), Gardner (2-3, 2B, RBI, 2 RS), Maione (2-3, 2B, RBI, RS), Freivogel (2-4, RBI) and Dowd Maye (2-2, BB, RS). Jon Herringdine and Naylor rounded out the Sox offensive attack, collecting a hit and RBI apiece with Naylor swiping two bases as well. The Sox look to extend their streak on April 15th when they go up against the Charlotte Chiefs at West Charlotte High School.
