The Sox got another stellar outing from starter Brett Bostick (4-0) along with a steady offensive attack to earn the victory. Pirates starter Dane Cory cruised through the first 1 1/3 innings before the Sox bats finally woke up. Joe Maione would get the offense rolling in the second inning with a single back up the middle. Shawn Gardner would follow lacing an RBI double in the right-center gap, scoring Maione. After a fly-out from the next batter, Mike Marconi stepped to the plate and also connected with a line-drive triple to right-center, plating Gardner to give the Sox a 2-0 lead. After a quite bottom half-frame from the Pirates, the Sox offense continued to tack on more runs. A lead-off double from catcher Jason Livingston, a walk and Pirates error would load the bases for Scott Yaniszewski who launched a mammoth grand slam homerun to left-center extending the lead to 6-0. Maione would follow the Yaniszewski blast with another single that chased the Pirates starter after only 2 1/3 innings. With another quick inning from Bostick, the Sox offense would attack once again. A lead-off single and stolen base from Chad Morris would allow the Sox to score again after a Brian Freivogel RBI single to left. Dowd Maye chipped in with a single of his own and advanced Freivogel to third, who would score moments later after an errant throw to home from the Pirates right-fielder. The fourth inning rounded out the scoring for the Sox, pushing the lead to 8-0. The Pirates would get on the board in their final at-bat with a one-out double from Cloninger who later scored on a RBI single to right from Vesel making the score 8-1. Bostick continued his dominant performance recording his fourth win while scattering a hit in the second, fourth and two in the seventh. He struck out five and surrendered only one earned run en route to his third complete game. The Sox hit collectively as a team, with all but two batters recording a hit. Offensive standouts for the Sox were Yaniszewski (1-3, HR, 4 RBI, BB, RS) and Maione (2-3, BB, RS). Cloninger lead the way for the Pirates collecting two of their four hits. Porter and Vesel added a hit apiece with Vesel driving in the lone Pirates run. The Sox are back in action at West Charlotte Sunday for a 4 pm game against the Charlotte Cardinals.
