| Coheed & Cambria with guests Straylight Run, The Detachment Kit, and 3 Friday, December 12th, 2003 House of Blues Chicago, Illinois Well, I was really looking forward to this concert. Even though I had never heard of 3 or The Detachment Kit, I had heard good things about them. Plus, I was gonna get to see Straylight Run AND Coheed and Cambria, so I figured I could give the other two a try. 3 started the show, and they were AMAZING. They sound A LOT like Coheed, and they played a bunch of amazing songs. I am going to buy their CD as soon as I get some money. They also let the drummer do a drum solo for like 20 minutes, and it was unbelievable. Next up was The Detachment Kit, and they were pretty good, too. They have A Story of the Year kind of sound, and the singer was really energetic. I also think I may pick up their EP soon. I met the guys and they are really cool, too. Finally, after 45 minutes of waiting, Straylight Run came out, and they were amazing. I know they played all their demos (Existentialism On Prom Night, Mistakes We Knew We Were Making, It's Everybody's Fault But Mine, A Slow Descent, The Tension and The Terror, It's For The Best), plus they played some new songs like "Dignity and Money", "Waiting For You", and "Holding On". All in all they were amazing, but it would've been better for them to go first because the crowd was so hyped up for Coheed that they didn't seem to care that much. Finally, Coheed came out. Now I came to this show to see Straylight Run, but I think Coheed and Cambria are one of the most amazing live bands I have ever seen. The set started with the phone ringing and everybody went crazy. Then they came out and played the eight minute wonder "In Keeping Secrets Of Silent Earth: 3". They next played a few old songs, like "Devil In Jersey City", "Time Consumer", and "Junesong Provision". After that, they played a few new songs, like my personal favorite "A Favor House Atlantic" and "Blood Red Summer". Then they played old and new songs. They finished the set off with an encore, "Everything Evil", which is an amazing song. All in all, this was an amazing concert that was very energetic. The only downside is that I was standing a foot away from the speaker, so I lost my hearing for like a week, but I think that it was definitely worth it for the show those four amazing bands put on. |
