Ode To The Rubber Bands On My Teeth
by Cory
O rubber bands on my teeth,
What lovely pain you do bring me
I grin in sarcasm this very moment
As you pull my two jaws slowly
Into one another
Surely you mock me, O rubber bands
With the way you prevent the motion of my tongue
As I try to get the minute pieces of chicken noodle soup
Out of my metal-covered teeth
I must place you in my mouth in a precise way
Or you may transform my midface region
Into a multi-layered ridge
O rubber bands on my teeth,
You are like a bad college roommate
Forced upon me by a force outside my control
Always with me, even when I attempt to sleep
I suppose I shall simply have to get used to you
And live with the hope that perhaps, in a few months,
I may leave you behind in the bathroom garbage can
Before I leave for college
