I was in my bathroom, minding my own business as usual when suddenly--I saw it. It was up on my wall-big, and black, and ugly-my enemy. I froze as I saw him. I was petrified, frozen, I couldn't move. He froze too. Suddenly, I knew what I must do. I ran out of the room as quickly as I could to retrieve my weapon of choice-my trusty can of Raid. I hoped that my enemy had not gone into hiding while I was away.I was relieved to find that he was still there when I returned. He was still up on the wall with his beady eyes, and his eight little black legs. A disgusting creature. I wondered if he'd spotted me. No time for that, I thought. I must attack now, before he escapes. I climbed up on top of the toilet to get a better angle, my weapon aimed and ready. I liked this weapon because it allowed me to attack from a distance. I detested close combat.
My enemy started to move and I knew that I must strike now. Fsshh! A direct hit! My enemy faltered. Fsshh! I hit him again and he fell. I stood on my tiptoes to try and see. He had fallen on top of my shelf. I couldn't see him, but I knew that he was there. I climbed off the toilet. Surely he won't bother me now I thought.
I knew that my enemy was strong. Oh, no, he wasn't dead yet, but surely he wouldn't be able to get down. He would die up there, and I could dispose of the remains later.
Feeling pleased with myself, but still a little wary, I placed my can of Raid outside my bathroom, just in case I needed it again. As I entered the bathroom again I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. He's alive! I thought. And he's moving! I froze again, not wanting to let him out of my sight. He crawled down, underneath the top shelf. I ran for my weapon.
I retrieved it and quickly reentered the bathroom, but my enemy was nowhere in sight. You can't escape me you beast! I thought to myself. I'll get you if it's the last thing I do.
Slowly, cautiously I peered at the spot where I'd last seen him, being careful not to get too close. I still saw nothing. I needed a better angle, but that would require me moving in very close, and I wasn't willing to do that. There was, however, one more option. I set my weapon down on the toilet and quickly stepped into my shower. Through the glass door, I could see my enemy's probable hiding spot, but he was not there. Puzzled I stepped out of the shower.
He escaped me! I thought. And I thought he was too wounded to get very far!
As I was contemplating, spraying the entire shelf in an attempt to flush him out, I suddenly saw a black spot, crawling on the strip of wall between my shower and my shelf unit! I jumped in alarm. He'd gotten all the way over there! But it was not the time to be frightened. My enemy was out in the open! Now was my chance to strike!
I grabbed my can of Raid and aimed and fired. Fsshh! I hit him again! He fell to the ground. He was very wounded, but he was a fighter.
"Die, spider, die!" I whispered out loud.
He started moving towards me! I panicked. I knew that this was the time to crush him, but I couldn't do it. I grabbed a wad of toilet paper. I had to kill him, but I chickened out. He was still moving closer to me.
I grabbed a Dixie cup and plopped it down on top of him. There! Now I had him! He was captured. I picked up a can of hairspray and placed it over the Dixie cup, ensuring that he wouldn't escape. He was poisoned. I knew that he would die before morning, and then I could dispose of the body properly.
I started to relax and washed my face. Whenever I closed my eyes, I saw a little crawling black thing. I shuddered. He'd gotten to me again, but the battle was over. I breathed a sigh of relief as I went back into my room. I quickly scanned the ceiling.
No, I thought to myself. It's not over. Every time I enter a room and search the corners of the ceiling: Every time a black moving dot catches my eye, I remember that the battle will never be over.
