| Greetings! We received our best news yet today. The full pathology report came back on the lymph nodes, and they were all cancer free. They removed a total of 18 lymph nodes during surgery last week, and these all underwent extensive tests to come to the final result. We continuet to take this with a grain of salt, because there is still a chance that the cancer spread through the blood stream (the 2nd way for Cancer to spread), but we will not know this until we talk to the Oncologist and he does additional testing. HOWEVER, this is great news - one of the two avenues for spreading has proven to be free and clear!. Dr. Elliott informed us that the tumor was much larger than they had expected. On the Sonogram and Mammogram films, the tumor was showing as a size of 2-3 cm. . . . . however, when they go in there during surgery, it was actually almost twice the size . .. it measured over 5 1/2 cm. He said, "It was huge!". But, they feel like they did get it all out. The next step now is to meet with an Oncologist. He will perform tests to make the determination if the cancer spread through the blood stream. In addition, he will determine Christy's schedule for chemo and radiation. We had thought, based on what her surgeon said, that she would do Radiation then chemo . . . but after speaking with the Oncologist, the Surgeon said that chemo will be first, but that is all that we know for right now. Christy has really started to get antsy about getting out and doing things. So, she is going to hitch a ride tomorrow with our friend who has been taking Damon to school this week. Christy has done a lot of work designing a database for Messiah Lutheran Grammar School, and she wants to spend a couple of hours working on that in the morning. Then, she's going to hook up with her best buddy and go to her Oncology appointment. They are not wasting any time with oncology. Our doctor is very experienced with breast cancer, and he has been aggressive in his treatment. However, he has also been very personalble and informative. We know that we made the right choice with him. So, one major stage of our journey is complete. God has blessed us richly with the support of our family and friends during this time. Together we will see this through! Philip 1 Corinthians 15:57 HOME |
