Chasing Gavin The little blue paper boat

The little boy held the paper in his hands,
Folding one corner to another.
Pleating the sides, creasing the ends,
Forming tiny triangles of marvel and wonder.

He smiled blithely at the modest surprise,
Adorning its simple splendor.
Delight and enchantment daunted his eyes,
As he held his dreams together.

The tiny boat swam along the stream,
Past the meadows and fields of brown and green.
Amid the rocks, between the leaves,
Rolling and swimming, like a ship at sea.

But after sole instances of joy and pleasure,
The ship at sea hurled itself into blunder!
The deafening sound of thunder crashed in the air,
Ripping the boat's flimsy mast and sail!

The little boy watched his dreams drift away,
All shattered, bringing him grief and dismay.
The tiny blue boat, destroyed as it may seem,
Never reached its goal, like the little boy's dream.
