Betta Diary
December 29, 2002
Everyone looks good, my white opaque is recovering from fin rot nicely.  Although my absolutly beautiful MG pair spawned, the father ate the eggs.  I will try again in 2 weeks.  Started feeding growing adolecents and breeders blackworms.  Gross to look at and handle, but are a big hit!  I obtained a Hatch N'Feeder which claims to hatch BBS and feed them to fry with out having to go through the hassle of harvesting.  I will test that out soon.  The next spawn I will try is my white opaques, again.  They didn't feel like spawning the last two times, but I will not give UP!!!

Working on my computer to get streaming video and sound to my web site.  Athough there is nothing really to hear, the video will be nice to record a spawn in action.  Expecting a new white opaque pair next week.  I will wait one month before trying to spawn.  In case I forgot to mention, WET PETS in Schaumburg, IL is an awsome pet store for breeders.  Tons of live foods and love to get their fish from local sources.

Hatch N'Feeder is great!  All my fry have full pink bellies all the time and they seem to have had a wonderful growth spurt!  I only wish I could buy it for all my tanks.  This week I will be setting up two spawning tanks, one for the opaque pair and another for my steel/yellow cross pair.  I don't forsee both spawns being successful, so my MG pair will take over where anyone of the pairs fail.

Two delta pairs, my opaques and my yellow/steel cross have refused to spawn.  This isn't the first time for either one and I will have to deem these fish non-breeders and sell them as pets.  If you are interested, let me know
[email protected] Now my black butterfly is in the spawning tank and I have high hopes.  Also, I received another opaque male and he has been busy chasing after the neighbors and building nests, I have a feeling he will be a good breeder!!!  And my favorite MG pair will get another chance in a week.  Hopefully dad will have out grown his egg eating ways.

I am in utter dispair.  My MG female died unexplianbly and no one else will spawn.  So I have decided to go back to my roots.  My blue cambodian female from my first ever spawn (yes, a vt!) and a matching blue cambodian male were placed in the spawn tank.  Within 24 hours they were getting busy and produced a spawn of 100.  So it is not me, it is my fish!  I will be getting some more breeders in and we will try again.
Also, I have been tampering with my gH.  It is at 1100 ppm straight out of my tap.  With some peat filtering I get it down to 500 ppm!!!  Maybe my bettas will like that!  A little closer to their natural habitat.
