Several species of Hornbill are to be found in Borneo. The most striking is the Rhinoceros Hornbill; a large, majestic bird who lives among the treetops of the rainforest.

The distinctive feature of the hornbill is the upper beak or casque which on the Rhinoceros Hornbill curves upward at the front. This unusual upper beak has long been a source of fascination to the native people of Borneo who make stylised wood carvings of the hornbill and use hornbill feathers for adornment in the celebration of the annual hornbill festival.
