Do You Really Want To be Owned By A Rottweiler

If you are planning to become the owner of a wonderful, intelligent and very
energetic Rottweiler puppy please make certain that you really want to be
owned by this very pushy demanding, "Velcro" breed. If you are not too
familiar with this breed we would like to introduce you to the Rottweiler as it
should be. Should you have already been owned by one we would like to
familiarize you with what we as breeders promise, and what we expect of you
as the potential owner.

The Rottweiler takes an active (very active) part in your daily life. Their world
revolves around you and they demand that you feel likewise. They will take
exactly what you'll let them get away with but they are also content to follow
the rules provided those rules are consistently enforced. They are not a dog to
languish alone in the backyard or in a basement or tied to the end of a chain.
They insist upon being a part of the family and all of its activities.; a part of
whatever is happening. They can be totally exasperating as puppies, willful as
teenagers and overly intelligent as adults. They can be too much to handle for
some and "pussycats" for others. They are quick to learn and slow to master.
Ironically they can even be aggressive to friends and friendly to thieves. They
are sometimes short-lived but they remain puppies throughout their lives. They
are dogs that think they are human and as such, they deserve to be treated the
same. This does not mean their every whim must be given in to. Indeed, on the
contrary, firm but loving discipline is a must if they are to live in harmony with
your family.

We at ChitaquaŽ strive for good health and temperament. Our puppies
start out life with positive factors going for them and then we endeavor to
make them even better by the way we raise them. They are raised in our
kitchen, the nucleus of our home, not the basement or outdoors or in a garage.
Proper socialization is of paramount importance to us.

In essence, they are bred and raised as though we were keeping them ourselves.
We do not breed unless we have deposits on a least half the litter.
When we breed we usually plan to keep at least one puppy, whether for
ourselves or on a co-ownership with someone else. All our puppies get excellent
health care and constant handling. Any puppy leaving ChitaquaŽ
will have had his/hers shots up to date and be free of worms or parasites, and
have a clean bill of health.

Every breeder would like to see each and every pup grow up to be a Best In
Show or even a Group winner and subsequently great breeding stock. This is
not always the case, unfortunately. Sometimes one can and does ascertain at an
early age that an individual pup may never become a champion but will certainly
make a fine, healthy pet. The converse is much more difficult. We may often
say that this or that puppy could be a potentially great dog but only time and
maturity can prove us right or wrong in our early hopeful assessment.

It is for that reason that our puppies are sold on a CKC NON-BREEDING
contract or Limited registrations.  If it is decided at approximately two years of
age that a particular dog is unsuitable for breeding and showing then spay/neuter
is stongly recommended. If however, it is felt that a dog can contribute to the
lineage, the Non-breeding contract may be lifted at the discretion of the breeder
pending fulfillment of all of the requirements listed in our "Sales Contract Guarantee". Basically this assures that a dog will not be bred indiscriminately, and
that only the progeny and get of suitable dogs will be registered.

ALL of our puppies go to their home with a complete written guarantee signed
by the breeder as well as the buyer. It clearly spells out our obligations to the
purchaser and theirs to us as well as our policy on returns and replacements.
We try to be generous and understanding. We have invested a lot of time,
work and money to bring these puppies into the world and want them
as protected as possible. As far as we are concerned, they will always be ours
and you will be their adoptive parents. Please read our contracts carefully, feel
free to compare it with others and remember, it goes both ways. If you are
comparison shopping please remember that it costs money to produce quality.
In the long run a healthy, well bred dog is almost always cheaper to own.
The difference in price is unimportant when spread over the lifetime of a dog.
If you are looking for a cheap guard dog, DON'T come to us. Our rottweilers
are bred for personal protection, not for junkyard dogs. If you are looking for
a bitch to turn into a money factory it will never happen. Breeding dogs
properly cost money, it doesn't make money. We consider ourselves very lucky
if we break even on a litter. If you are looking for a lifetime companion to show,
train or to be your children's playmate and personal protector we would love
to talk with you. We are very proud of our dogs and would be happy to
allow you to meet with any of them in person.

Remember, we are doing this as a hobby, not as a business. You may have to
wait for the right puppy but we think it is worth the wait and so do the people
who already own one or more of our dogs. I would be only too please to refer any
other Chitaqua client to you at any time. We do have a waiting list because our
puppies usually sell by word of mouth and as such are usually sold before they
are born or the litter is even planned. If you would like to be on that list,
please do not hesitate to contact us either by email: [email protected] or by
telephone (613) 342-2220
Should you become the proud owner of one of our Dogs we wish you both
to share in a long and happy relationship. Treat each other with kindness and
love and it is guaranteed that you will derive the same pleasure that we have for
over 20 years from our family of Rottweilers.
