A massive earthquake measuring 8.9 on Richter Scale hits the Indonesian Island of Sumatra, which triggered the aftershocks across 1240 miles (2000 kms) resulting in high tidal waves as high as 10 meters in the sea. The death toll is reported to be 22,700 a couple of hours before this post ( 9:15 pm IST December 27 2004) and is supposed to go even higher as more and more areas are surveyed across the Asia.
