You think this doesn't have anything to do with movies?
Talk to J-Lo.
Thumbs up for Radiohead---Thumbs to Hades for Kid A.
In the year 2000, we here at NEGATIVES had a competition to find the worst, most insipid, most ineffectual musical "talent" of the nineties.  After careful thought and considerable debate, we narrowed it down to a female rockster who hit the music scene in early '97.   This chick was-----and is-----the hands-down winner.  Find out who she is and why she's championed:
Obsessive Band Review:
Watch your resident critic make a complete and utter groupie out of herself.

Yeah.  Seeing how it's Karla and not Sara who's been living in Nashville for the last nine months, expect her to dominate this section.  Also expect Karla's dorky commentary on the leaked Radiohead album.
Now that she's gotten the Evan Dando solo album, she has less money to be a
film geek.

G-E-N-I-U-S.  I can't wait to own it legally.
Fairly Recent Favorites

1.)
Coldplay - Since December of 2000, I have nothing bad to say about this band.  "Such a Rush" and  "See You Soon" ride the top of the list.

2.)
Sarah Harmer - A new favorite since April of 2001, when I heard "At the Hideout" on my car radio at 2:30 in the morning and pulled off to the side of the road to write down her name.  I kid you not.
For less contemporary genius from the female Harry Connick J.r., check out
Songs For Clem.

3.)
Ben Kweller - Stuck in my head perpetually since January of 2002.   Couldn't be more melodic if Weezer backed Ben Folds and resurrected members of the Beatles.  Listen to "Falling."

4.)
Spoon - The newest favorite band in the countdown, Spoon (a la Kill the Moonlight) didn't warrant a place in my collection after a first listen.  But discovering Girls Can Tell around Christmas of 2002 would change my feelings about this elliptically electric ensemble.  Brilliant songwriters from Texas proving that it's all about simplicity.
"Hail to the Theif"
Song:  All of them.  Okay, alright: "Where You End And I Begin."
(Self - Titled)
Song: "Open Sky"
Those Brits, they're better at everything.
Demonstrates Plastic & Elastic
Song: Either "Seamonster" or "We Close Our Eyes"
Currently in the CD converter:
Hate
Song: "Woke From Dreaming"
Currently Loathing the Most:
Bright Eyes
Interpol
Shimmering beauty, guitar surges through your bloodstream like sleep-inducing drugs.  You'll be waving bon voyage to consciousness.
I've seen TVB three times, the third time Michael Pritzl was wearing a Nightmare sweatshirt.  Yes, this band is awesome.
My review of this succulent feast of sound.
Girls Can Tell (if you're not wearing deodorant)
The best epic music since U2.  Nada Surf rides the coattails, however.
Most Recent Show: Pedro The Lion - The Earl, Atlanta
The best new female vocalist since Sarah Harmer.
HOT HOT HEAT
Make Up The Breakdown
Song: "Get In or Get Out"
When We Were Small
Song: "Finish Line"
Taco-flavored kisses, anyone?
FINALLY, Brody Armstrong shows every other female punk vocalist in the world how it's done.  Too bad they still can't keep up.

Karla reviews Sha Sha!  ...Okay, so it's not really a review.  It's actually a rant.
