TEMPLEMICHAEL PARISH Tithe Applotment records, 1834

The Tithe Applotment records listed many occupiers of land in Ireland in the 1820s and 1830s. The survey was taken to determine the amount of money owed to the Church of Ireland by each land occupier. This tithe had to be paid even by Catholics, and was the source of great resentment and numerous uprisings. The following are townlands within Templemichael Parish.

25 Feb. 1835

With reference to your letter of the 17th Instant, stating what you allege to be an irregularity in Mr. Despard's applotment of the Parish of Templemichael, I am to acquaint you, that, upon due enquiry being made, it appears that that gentleman's operations are null and void, in consequence of his having applotted upon a certificate made of him subsequently to Samuel Smith, Cappoquin. The registration of one signer and you in March 1834, and as an applotment much he made upon your certificate, I am directed to inform you, that their excellencies the Lords Justices, authorize your proceeding with the same, provided you commence operations immediately.
James King, Your obediant, humble servant
