| Right, Edwart Amundsen, the father of Alfred E. Emerson, born April 19, 1852 in Eiker, Buskerud, Norway, died November 11, 1930 in Chippewa Falls. Edwart sailed, at age 14, with his parents (Amund Amundsen and Caroline Maria Johannesdatter) from Drammen, Norway to Quebec (May 1 - Jun 9, 1866) aboard the bark Rhea. At age 28, he served one term as Register of Deeds for Chippewa County (1881-1882). Leading up to the election, he changed the family name to Emerson in 1880, perhaps because Emerson had a better "sound" to the local electorate. His daughter-in-law Mary Trudelle Emerson held the same office for four terms. |
