| Elizabeth J. Powers, wife of Joseph Powers, wrote the lyrics to this and other popular songs in the early 1930s and published them herself from Troy, Montana. Her husband was a grandson of Patrick and Johannah through their daughter Johanna Powers. Two of the composers she collaborated with were L. G. Bivens and Jean Walz. "On a day I'll ne'er forget "Twas an old-fashioned game "Then as I watched every play On the bowling green we met But it was love just the same Something within seemed to say I was so lonesome and blue, All the rules that I knew No matter what be the score I thought you might be, too, I taught them to you, I could teach you no more "That is why I took part "But I saw at a glance "You brough pain to my heart, With no fear in my heart My heart had no chance Still I cherish the part, In the game that was meant For all the rules that I knew In the game that was meant For just two. Someone else had taught to you, For just two." In that old-fashioned game they call love. |
