THOMAS SUGARS IS CALLED BY DEATH AFTER LONG ILLNESS

Prominent Resident of Chippewa for 40 Years Dies at Home Early Today


Thomas W. Sugars, aged 64 years, a prominent resident of Chippewa Falls for nearly 40 years, died at his home, 316 W. Cedar street, at six o'clock this morning after an illness of six months from colitis. His condition the past month had been serious and his death was not unexpected.

Born at Granville, Canada, Sept. 26, 1865, Mr. Sugars completed his education at that place and came to the United States when a young man. His first employment was in the service of the Wisconsin Central railway in Chicago, which ended during the general strike in 1893. He then came to Chippewa Falls and engaged in the grocery business in which he remained until his death. Thirty four years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Daly of this city.

Mr. Sugars served several years as a member of the city council and as representative of the city on the county board. He was chairman of the Republican County committee many years and at the time of his death a successor had not been elected. For several years he was state treasurer of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and held the office up to the time of his demise.

Surviving relatives are his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Roy Gort of Eau Claire, and Miss Maude Sugars of this city; three sons, Dr. Roy T. Sugars of Chicago, William Sugars of Eau Claire and Eugene Sugars of this city. Four brothers and one sister as follows also survive: Edward and Martin Sugars of Duluth, Walter of this city, Lawrence of Minneapolis and Miss Nell Sugars of San Francisco.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning at nine o'clock at Notre Dame church and interment will be in Hope cemetery.
