| Ruth Manning was the wife of State Senator David Martin Manning of Treasure County, Montana, the longest-serving state senator in the history of the country. We will always remember her warmth and generosity, and her crazy sunglasses. RUTH MANNING Ruth Manning, 88, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, in a Billings rest home. Ruth Ann Manning and her husband, Dave, lived in the southwest for several years before returning to Hysham. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hysham, Altar Society, American Legion Auxiliary, Book Club, Democratic Club, and Legislative Wives. She was a gold star mother. She was born in Diamond City, MT, a daughter of Viva and Desmond Clark. The family moved to Joliet and in 1916 to Hysham, where she attended high school and worked at Crane Drug Store. On Dec. 21, 1920, she married Dave M. Manning in Colorado. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren said it so well about Ruth. She was like a queen to them. She was so full of self-confidence and vitality and she gave them this gift as well, just by being around her. Ruth was the same in Hysham. There was not a graduation that she missed over many, many years. There was not a shower, or a wedding that Ruth did not have a thought for. She came home from the sessions in Helena where Dave was in the House of Representatives and then the Senate and happily picked up her small-town life; always counting Hysham as home and the people here as friends. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, (private) and (private); two sisters, (private) and (private); five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Rosary was recited last Thursday night in Billings. Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hysham, with burial at Mountview Cemetery, Billings. Pallbearers were (private). Music was provided by Ruth's grandson, (private). HOME OBITUARIES |
