| From the Aberdeen Daily World, April 16, 1981. John E. Hogan was a great-great-grandson of Patrick and Johannah Hogan through John, John Carol, and Katharyn: John E. Hogan WESTPORT -- John E. Hogan, 64, a former speech teacher in the Aberdeen, Hoquiam and Ocosta school districts, died Tuesday evening at a local hospital, following an extended illness. Born July17, 1916, in Aberdeen, he had lived in Westport. He attended Aberdeen schools, graduating from Weatherwax High School in 1936. Hogan earned his master's degree in speech therapy from Eastern Washington University at Cheney. In 1958, he married Jean Campbell in Richland. She survives at the family home. During World War II, he served overseas with the Merchant Marines and with the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Aberdeen Elks, the Hoquiam Teacher's Association, the Washington Education Association, the National Education Association, and Phi Delta Kappa. Hogan enjoyed hiking and gardening. Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, (private) of Westport, a brother, James Acret of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; a sister, Mary Pengra of Bellevue; an aunt, Mary Ward Jacobs of Laguna Hills, Calif.; a cousin, Giles Hogan of Hogan's Corner, and other cousins in California and New York. A Catholic Prayer Service will be said 11 a.m. Saturday at the Whiteside Memorial Chapel. Further information will be listed in the funeral notice column. Catholic prayer service will be Sat. 11 a.m. at the Whiteside Chapel with Fr. Andrew Horgan. Interment will follow in Fern Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be members of the Elks: James Wright, Ernie Pearson, Jerry Keltner, Norman Jamtaas, Gordon Edland, and Stan Pennick. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Fund.
