Returning from the Tar River on Johannah's road going west, we find ourselves back at its intersection with the Scart-Shanbally road.  Remains of the Shanbally Castle estate walls can be seen in front of a modern house. Below the window farthest to the left, there is a nitch in the wall. It is actually a stile (stone steps built into a wall so that people could climb over it), and it is there so that people could go over the wall to get to a well they believed to be a holy well. This particular well was believed to cure eye diseases and was visited by many at Easter time.
Continuation of the estate walls at the same location. This photo is looking north up the Scart-Shanbally Road from its intersection with Johannah's road.
