Late Friday Morning

Jed again finds a quick moment to call Abbey and catches her in her office.   “Hello, Abbey, light of my life, mirror of my soul, the center of my love.  How are you this fine day?”

“What a wonderful way for you to greet me, when I answer the phone.  I’m fine, Jethro.  I take it you’re having a great day or have you had more sugar than you can handle today?  From your cheery greeting, it sounds like you’ve had more sugar than you should have had for a week.”

“Now, Abbey, I’ve not really had that much sugar, but the dessert at lunch was wonderful.  It was a delightful Raspberry Crème Brulee and the sugar on top was caramelized to perfection.  They just insisted I have a second serving, when they saw how much I enjoyed it.  You know how I’m such a sucker for Crème Brulee of any kind.  I think Leo is getting the recipe to take home.”

“Jed, you sound like you’re on a sugar high, just like the girls did when they would be bouncing off the walls, after you slipped them candy behind my back.” Abbey reminds him, just to make her point.

He’s not going to mention to her the midnight snack that he shared with Leo last night.  She would definitely consider it too many sweets, especially for him, in the last twenty-four hours.

He tries to redirect the focus away from himself.  “Well, I imagine that Leo has had more sugar than I’ve had lately.  In the middle of the night, Leo was up enjoying some wonderful, large, soft, chocolate chip cookies with milk and he also wanted a second helping of dessert at lunch.”  Jed’s not gonna let her know that Leo resisted the temptation at lunchtime and that he did not.

“And how do you know that they were wonderful cookies, Jed?  I’m sure that you remembered that you’re ‘not’ to be eating during the night or we’ll be unpacking those larger suits of yours again!   Did you just happen to sample a few?”   She’s not buying it, not at all.  Abbey knows him and cookies.  That’s how and why Mrs. Landingham started having cookies on her desk?  Now, was it for his benefit, or to control him?  When he wanted one, she reserved the right to tell him yes or no?  It depended on his behavior and how many cookies he had that day.  She just rationed his cookies from day to day.

Jed goes with a half-truth. “I did have a glass of warm milk, while Leo enjoyed his cookies.  He liked the cookies better after he warmed them, just like I did, …do.  Damn!”

Abbey lets out a snicker, as she smirks at being right, “Busted, Jethro.  So, you two raided the cookie jar.   You two are not to be trusted alone near a kitchen.  Here or when you’re away.”

Jed chuckles at her getting him to rat himself out.  She can work him so easily.  “Yeah, Ok, I confess.  I did have cookies with Leo.  I found him in the kitchen, trying to find a way to help himself get to sleep.  I wanted to be there for him.”

“Yeah, I hear you.  Raiding the cookie jar!” She’s bursting to tell him her news and afraid that he might get called away, she switches gears. “Jed, enough about the cookies.  I have some news!  I found out what Leo and Margaret’s problem is with your trip this week to London!”

Jed looks around him to pinpoint Leo’s location and lowers his voice, “Do tell, my little underground agent.  What did you find out?”

Abbey proceeds to quickly fill Jed in on what she found out last night, about Leo and Margaret’s anniversary that’s coming up this weekend.

At the end of her news, both Jed and Abbey sigh sadly, as they consider the importance of the coming weekend to their friends.  They are both upset that they unknowingly had a part in Leo and Margaret being so worried, about the possibility of them being apart on Sunday.

Jed finally speaks, “But we didn't know.  They didn’t breathe a word, then or now.”

Abbey says what her heart feels first, “I know, Jed, but we need to get them together.  We need to make this happen for them.”

“Well, Sugar, it just so happens that Pakistan and India just walked out of the conference.  Leo and I are just hanging around to see it they intend to rejoin the conference or if they returned to their respective countries.   I have been entertaining the idea of hopping over to Ireland, if I now get the free time.”

Abbey speculates, “I wonder if I could arrange, on such short notice, to get Margaret and I over for some private time with you guys in Ireland?”

“Oh, Abbey, that’s a wonderful idea.  The four of us could possibly stay for a long weekend and visit that cozy little Irish inn that we stayed at before.”

He continues and his mind whirls with plans, “I could kill some time tomorrow, by dragging Leo around sight seeing, till you get there.  I could check out the Blarney Stone.  Leo would love to see it,” he teases.

In a suggestive voice she hints, “I could check out a few of those sites with you, Jed.  You know, alone.  I’m sure that Leo and Margaret will be able to find something to keep themselves busy.”

The President and Abby agree without words to surprise Leo and Margaret, “This will be a wonderful way to fix things for them, Jed, but can we arrange this on such short notice?”

“I’ll get Ron on it immediately.  He can impress me and make this happen.” Jed chuckles and reasons, “He seems to be a man that might like a good challenge.”

Abbey is already in planning mode. “It would be feasible for us to fly over tomorrow, as Margaret already has her clothes packed for staying here.  I would have to tell her that we’re going out of the country, so she could get her passport from the office safe.  You know the staff keeps them at the White House for emergency trips.   I will call, as soon as we hang up, and have my plane made ready for in the morning.  I know that Lilly can clear my schedule for a few days.”

Pausing, Abbey then decides, “To be really sneaky, I’ll wait to tell Margaret at the last minute in the morning, so she won’t let it slip to Leo tonight and ruin the surprise.”

Jed joins in to help formulate their weekend of R&R in Ireland, away from the prying eyes of the press and the public. “Yeah, I’m not telling Leo at all, till you show up, as payback for his being pissy this week with me.  I do need to let Ron know right now, so he can be doing his security thing.”

The President continues with the next breath, still planning, “I better let Josh in on what we’re planning for them, so he can cover the White House for a few more days.  By the time we get back, he’ll be getting really comfortable at running the whole place.  That is if Toby doesn’t kill him, while we’re away.  Josh will naturally let Donna know.  I’m sure she’ll be happy to cover Leo’s office for Margaret.”

“I still think Ron is just gonna kill us, for planning this at the last minute.”  Abbey predicts with some hesitation.

“No, I don’t think he will.  After Leo’s nightmare the other night, I’m sure Ron realizes that we all need a break.  I’m confident that he can work it out, even if he has to call in the Irish Garda to help with the security clearance.”

Jed remembers the small Irish guesthouse that he and Abby stayed at for an anniversary, while he was a student at The London School of Economics.  He so loves that it’s near the water and remembers fondly that they’d gone horseback riding on the beach.

It’s a small, 10-room guesthouse and on the rooms on the main floor are a dining room, sitting room and even a small pub for the guests and a few of the locals.  It’s near the town of Youghal, about halfway between Cork with the Blarney Stone and Waterford with its world famous crystal factory.  The ladies might like to hop over there to make a few purchases.  The area where the inn is located is quite secluded, so it should be safe with the secret service protection.

Friday night - DC / Saturday morning - London

In the semi darkness of the early morning dawn Leo’s first thought, as his mind wakes, is that he would love to be sharing a warm cuddle with Margaret.  Rubbing his face a little to bring some life to his brain, he soon considers that she’s probably just going to sleep, as it’s her midnight to his 5 am.  He’s thinking that he could do the next best thing and cuddle over the phone lines, as they both would be in bed.  Turning on his side he reaches for the phone, with only one eye open and still half asleep, he dials the number to reach her at the Residence.

Margaret answers the phone with only the dim light coming in through the window from the grounds lights to guide her.  She hears Leo’s rumbling morning voice.  “I was waking up, Sweetheart, and missing you.  I hope I didn’t wake you.  I ah…I just wanted to call you…, before you went to sleep to tell you good night and that I love you, Baby.”

Margaret leans back against her propped up pillows, smiles, getting misty eyed at him being so sweet.  “I love you, Leo, and ‘Good Morning’ to you.”  A bit of worry now enters her voice, “How was your night?”

Rolling onto his back again and reaching behind his head, Leo punches some life back into his dented pillows, knowing that would be her first question.  “I did sleep better last night, even with Jed checking on me.  He may have checked on me more than once.” He gives a half-awake chuckle, “The only time I know of, was not to long after I first went to sleep and he was trying not to disturb me.  You know, I’m not sure he knows how to enter a room and not have his presence make itself known, but I just let him think he managed to do it quietly.  I had to be a really good actor, I can tell you, when he tiptoed in just to be sure I was really asleep, since I was lying on my side.  It never dawned on him that he might wake me, when he softly touched and rubbed me on the shoulder, before leaving the room.  ‘I love him so much’.”

Margaret slips back down in her bed and agrees softly, “Ah, Leo, I know you do and he’s so sweet to check on you.  I was hoping he would, since I can’t be there to do it for you myself.  I’m glad you haven’t had any repeats of your nightmares from the first night.”  The silence between them is comforting, as they both think of Jed worrying about his Leo.

Margaret soon confesses, “Before you called, I was just lying here trying to get to sleep by thinking about our first year together.”

Leo is more fully awake now and so is the rest of him, “Did you include when you started the ‘waist and up rule’?” He asks in his best, low and sexy voice.  It’s his below the waist area that is really on his mind at this moment.

She smirks in the darkness and purrs in reply, “Not really, but that’s when I first realized that you’re a breast man, Leo.”  Margaret smoothes her hand down the satin front of her gown, slowly over a breast, sighing with disappointment that it’s not his hand that’s touching her.

He happily rubs his hand up and down his chest a few times, wishing it was her loving caress, as he agrees, “Mmmm, guilty as charged, Baby, but you have such nice perky ones that I just love to admire.”  ~And to touch, fondle and kiss, whenever I can.~

She gestures to the side with her hand, “Well, I do admire you from the waist up as well, Sweetie.” She can match his sexy suggestions. “I still remember the first time I saw you without a shirt.  It was when you threw your t-shirt at me after getting dots of food coloring on it.  You knew what you were doing to me and you just swaggered away down the hallway.  I should have known right then that ‘you’re not too shy’!”

“So, you liked me tossing my clothes at you?”  His voice has a definite smirking tone to the tease.

She rolls over onto her front to hug the pillow, “Yeah, like when you were bathing Rachel and stripped to the waist.  I almost forgot to breathe, but you just had to tease me for staring at you.” She breathes out happily at the memory.

“What do you mean, I’m not too shy?”  He asks her tauntingly and almost as a challenge for her to explain how.

“Well, it wasn’t long before you were feeling comfortable enough to go shirtless around my apartment and when we went to Detroit you were happy to slip into bed in just your satin boxers.”  She ends with a nod of her head in the dim light of the room.

“You like my satin boxers, at least that’s what you say, right before you relieve me of them lately.”  He knows she can’t deny it, so he continues, “And you were never too shy, Baby, about kissing my jet tattoo, whenever you got a glimpse of it.”

Margaret giggles at the truth in his statement, as she unconsciously tucks her hear behind her ear.  “Well you weren’t shy at all, when I wanted to use my girly body puff to make bubbles all over you, when we first showered together, maybe just a little macho at first.”

“Your theory about me just might be right.  That was about the same time I flipped open the edge of your robe and knew for sure that you were a natural redhead.”  He knows that still makes her blush and he loves it.

She does blush at remembering his boldness and the shocked look on his face, when he realized she was nude underneath.

“Leo, I think the moment I really knew for sure, was when you first dropped your boxers in the shower.” She points out to him.

“You dropped you panties, as well, if I remember right and I always remember what you do with your panties.  It’s a natural instinct of mine,” he boasts.

She wiggles down into the mattress, rubbing her satin covered mound, just at the thought of his caressing her panties.  “Oh, Leo, you and your infatuation with my panties and what color I’m wearing each day.  We seem to be on a theme here, Flyboy.  Are you missing our morning hello?”

“Oh Yeah and I bet you’re missing me for more than just my cooking for you right now?”

“Oh yes, Sweetie.  That’s for sure.  I just can’t decide that when we’re next in bed together, if I will prefer fast and frantic or sweet and slow.” Margaret suggests in a low sexy voice to tease him.

“Oh God, Baby, please don’t put those images in my head.  I’m suffering enough knowing you’re in bed without me.  He instinctively rubs the front of his satin pants, just like she does to tease him.

Margaret hugs the inefficient pillow tighter against her abdomen, “Yeah, we better stop and cool down or we’ll both be needing cold showers, real soon.  This is getting to be ‘too hard’ on us, with being so far apart.”

Leo groans, “Don’t mention ‘hard’, Margaret, or it’s gonna be too late for a cold shower to do me any good.”

“Sorry, Sweetie, I’ll watch what I say.  We really should ‘get off’ now.”  Margaret couldn’t resist the double meaning of her words and tries not to snicker.   At the sexy thought of his dilemma, she happily wiggles again, as her own body lets her know that she’s also in need.

“Thanks a lot, Baby.  The more you talk like that, the more ‘he’ is standing tall and is practically quivering at your suggestive wording.  I can really tell he misses you.”

“I quit, Leo.  Honest!   I’ve got myself in a fix, as well, just thinking of your morning condition.  You go shower now and I’ll try to get some sleep.  I can’t wait to be in your arms again.  Night or make that morning, My Love.”

“Yeah, a cold, lonely shower.   I miss you.  I’ll talk to you later.  Luv ya, Baby.”  He reaches out to hang up the phone and then flops back down flat with a sigh.  Knowing that the clock is ticking, he soon raises his head and looks down at his condition, “Forget it, Buddy, she’s too far away today.”  He swings his feet to the floor with resolve and gets up to start his day.

After the call and after getting up for a cold drink of water, Margaret returns to bed.  Snuggling under her covers, she now feels closer to Leo tonight and she soon has a dream of her own.  It seems to start at the beginning of their relationship.  Moving from the first meals that he prepared for them, to the beauty of their first private dance in celebration of her birthday.  It then moves on to the happiness and laughter that they shared, as she beat him with her bunny slipper during her beauty night.

In the dream she again feels the warm comfort of being held in his arms, just like the morning she awoke after the first time he arrived in the middle of the night. Then she’s reliving they fun and the small touches of their lives together back at the beginning of their relationship.  The dream moves her on to the wit and togetherness that they had during his ‘punishment’, as he cared for her when she was in pain and needed help.  She can almost feel his firm, but gentle touch, while he rubbed her back, as she lay across his lap.

The dream changes and drifts into their sadder moments.  Margaret moves restlessly in the bed, as she again feels the anger and sadness of the time when she resigned and Leo camped outside her door, while she cried on the other side of it.

She’s struggling with the covers, as they tangle around her.  Just like the dream is doing in her mind, as it moves into her worst moment of the last year.   Margaret seems to be suspended in time, worrying for Leo’s safety or even his very life, as all over again the agents will not answer any of her questions that might calm her growing panic.

The dream releases her from the dilemma, as her mind moves on to the life they share together in the new apartment.  She relaxes and her body calms, when in the dream she can almost smell the raspberry scent of her bubble bath, reminding her of when Leo sat on the small stool by the tub and watched her shave her legs.  He thought it was so sexy.

She once more sees the warm glow of soft colored lights on his face, remembering how they had lain under the decorated holiday tree and later moved into the sanctuary of their bedroom.  She relives wonderful glimpses of the sweet consummation of their love, as they made love for the first time, even if it was another of Leo’s wonderful oops’s.

The holiday spirit fills her again with the feeling of the closeness that they shared with their extended families, all lovingly collected around them.  She drifts into a deeper, peaceful slumber, with a slight smile gracing her face, as the dream fades with their future warmly stretching out beyond her dreams.

If we did not break part 4 up, it would already be 35 pages and one more section to go.  We were trying to keep the parts smaller and post more often this time!

Well, we tried, but RL just loves to mess up that plan!

Thanks for reading!!
