Sergeant John "Mace" Macejunas was a defiant Delta who was involved in the rescue unit to save his fellow Delta members. Mace was in the city of Mogadishu for a total of three times during the battle, all three attempts to save the rest of the men. He is known as the courageous leader of the force that reached Durant's crash site on foot. He returned to Mogadishu a fourth time the day following the battle dressed as a civilian to recover the bodies of the missing Deltas and pilots.
