CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER MIKE DURANT

Chief Warrant Officer Mike Durant was the pilot of the second downed Black Hawk, Super Six Four.  Just several minutes after the first bird had crashed, Durant and his crew felt their bird get his. In this case, however, the Black Hawk landed on its belly.
Durant was considered to be a veteran of the Night Stalkers and was always on the move in this lifestyle.  In the crash, Durant and his copilot, Ray Frank, were knocked out for several minutes, with Durant's vertebrae being crushed and suffering other minor injuries.  When he came to, D-boys had made it to the scene; Master Sergeant Gary Gordon, Sergeant First Class Brad Hallings, and Sergeant First Class Randy Shugart.  Crew member Staff Sergeant Bill Cleveland, had injured his leg in the crash, and the other crew member, Sergeant Tommie Fields, was not badly hurt.  Both helped to fend off surrounding Somalis.
Durant's crash site was eventually overrun; the D-boys, Frank, Cleveland, and Field were KIA and mutilated by angry mobs.  Durant himself was captured and held captive for eleven days before being released.
