Private First Class Todd Blackburn was positioned under Sergeant Eversmann's Chalk, a boy right out of High School, who Eversmann was looking out for since he had yet to go to Ranger School. When the Chalk was signaled to rope down from the Black Hawk, Blackburn was one of the first to go, but he somehow missed the ropes and fallen the seventy feet down from the bird. He suffered from head and neck trauma and also had a few broken bones. Blackburn was the first signal of something to go wrong on that mission, and was evacuated from the town by the ground convoy, who had a lot of trouble getting back to base. When Blackburn regained consciousness the day after, he did not remember his fall or anything that happened during his evacuation. His injuries also made him into a different person, one who was unlike the Blackburn his buddies had known just twenty-four hours before.
