Mohamed Farrah Aidid, whose nickname at the JOC was "Yogi the Bear," was a feirce warlord who tried to come to power in Somalia in the early 90s.  He set up clans all around Somalia, and one main one, Habr Gidr, was mainly based in Mogadishu.  It was thought that Aidid came into Mogadishu several times during the U.S.'s posting there to talk at meetings. The whole point of The Battle of the Black Sea was to capture several of Aidid's top lieutenants to find some answers. After the battle, Washington ended the seige on Aidid and he later died in 1996 without carrying out what he wanted to do in Somalia.
