> AboutDear Chi Phi Alumni,
The Internet is a great way to keep in touch. I am building a directory starting from our beginnings in 1969. If you know of any other alumni I need to add to our list please e-mail me the information and I will be glad to post it. I hope to use the '> Calendar' button to post any events or gatherings we might schedule in the future. Check back periodically!
Fraternally Yours,
Gary R. Silver, Chi Delta '70
Our Brief History:
The Chi Phi Fraternity, founded on December 24, 1824, at Princeton University is the oldest national social fraternity. The chapter at Georgia State was founded in 1968 by three men, and had grown to 28 members by 1970. In January 1970, the colony became the Chi Delta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity. We became a chapter the same year, 1970, Georgia State received 'University' status. The most unusual thing about the GSU Fraternities was we had no housing. We eventually secured a room in the old student center and furnished it. (Some of us even remember installing and finishing the brick floor that made our room unique.) Since Georgia State was primarily a commuter school and was not located in a residential area, housing near the school was cost prohibitive. The chapter thrived for over twenty years. Sometime in the early 90's the Chapter lost it's charter and was put on the 'inactive status'. According to the national office records there were approximately 131 men affiliated with the Chi Delta Chapter over this period of time. Most still live in the metro Atlanta area. We are unique in that our National Headquarters are located right here in our area. They have recently relocated from the Buckhead offices that many of us knew in the 70's, to a new office just off I-85 at Indian-Trail Road near Lilburn.
